How are people finding tactical defensive play? I really couldn't get on with it in the demo because you always backed off too far from the player with the ball, I'm hoping they've tweaked it in the full game.Comment

I've found that I have more luck when avoiding the use of 'contain' button (X on PS3). Instead I jockey or run/jockey, keeping goal-side to the opponent and if I can, timing a tackle or a blocking tackle.Originally posted by Jimmyboi View PostComment

Tactical defending is all kinds of awesome. I love it. It probably needs refining a touch though to improve tackle speed times but it is a revelation and really changes how you play. I never contain, just manually jockey and you need to try to read the game. Also if the player is in a position that is not dangerous there is no need to get too close, just force a mistake.Comment

Got the 360 version last night. Have to say, it's really bloody good.
Still haven't grasped the defending but have fared ok this far. Calling in second player with RB feels like RSI inducing to but have used it once or twice to great effect. Can see this new defensive control putting off a lot of die hards but really I can already see how it will improve things.
Played a H2H season game online & got disconnected from EA servers counting as a loss? gutted as I'd just gone 2-1 up near the end of a great match. Wasn't the opponent quitting that I could tell. The online friendlies stat tracking is another lovely addition for regular play with mates.
Only thing I'm not getting is Ultimate teams. I've not played this is past years as it was an extra they seems to want constant cash for cards? Had a stab of it last night in SP and won several matches but can't see how or where you can customise your team badge or strip? Just the name & squad? Any tips or pointers? That mode looks pretty heavy.Comment

Why is everyone writing off 'contain' as being useless? Use it on the wings in combination with jockey and your defender tracks anyone trying to twist and turn their way past you - then just release it when you're close enough to tackle.Comment

Decided to get the PS3 version this morning after trying the demo on both, I think the PS3 controller is better for the new tactical defending button mashing fest but i'm really getting used to it now and think I prefer it.
Got a good deal at Tesco where you get it for ?25 with any other chart game, so I bought Deus Ex for ?25 and got a ?5 off voucher when you spend ?50! So ?45 for the both which basically means Deus Ex cost me a fiver!

Yeah I've been using 'team contain'. While my AI players try for the tackle I use the player I control to man mark the nearest forward player without the ball, it forces the opposition to make a defensive pass instead.Originally posted by mr_sockochris View PostComment

"Team contain" is in the tutorial if you look. Its basicaly when both you and another player contain someone. So really its a "two person contain", not a team one.Originally posted by hoolak View PostComment

having played fifa 11 a lot i thought this would be pretty easy to start playing so being the cocky so an so i am put it straight on world class and got my arse completely handed to me, that defending is totally new (and bloody hard) back to learning the basics anyone on here tried ultimate team yet bloody good fun had me up till past 2 this morningComment

I have exactly the same issues as last year can't play H2H matches as ea server connection drops everytime when downloading the roster update. EA are crap!
I never have issues with online gaming apart from fifa 11 and 12
