Finished my first play through yesterday. Good fun, liking the pop-out/sink-in toggle for the 3D, was a might easy though.

Got this this morning. It's really nice and very smooth. I really think the run should have been analogue though - not quite sure of the value of having run assigned to a button, especially when the 3DS buttons are so cramped. I find something isn't quite right with the buttons and I'm not sure what it is - should the jump and run buttons be reversed? I don't know.
Music is lovely and, while I felt it looked very bland in the previews, there's something in the simplicity that works. It's not beautiful to look at and I think this was a pretty safe and unadventurous look but it works. Only played a couple of levels so far and while there hasn't been much to them, I liked that there were already a few little extra places to find. Looking forward to playing more later.

Well I'm four worlds in and, mostly, I think this is excellent. The short, well-constructed levels work really well and there are some nice gameplay tricks along the way. Yes, it's incredibly easy. Too easy so far, but I've already missed a few coins so there's more challenge there and hopefully it will get a bit more challenging as it goes on. That's not to say I haven't died. I have but, unfortunately, mostly due to me having some trouble with the controls, rather than any designed difficulty. There are a few quirks like old 3D moves that feel like they shouldn't be here in this one, like the cartwheel type jump that kicks in sometimes when I don't want it to. A few frustrating falls.
Some levels look lovely with quite a warm feel. And I love the fan service - they recognise the value of nostalgia. BUT (it's a big but) it really bugs me that there seems to be no coherence in the levels at all. No world themes. At least none that I can see. Not even sure why it's divided up into worlds at all. When I finished the first world, there was a nice starry sky and I though, ooh a nice night world, but it turned out to be just a little cut scene. Where are my themed worlds?
Still, I think it's pretty great and I'm really enjoying it.

Well I'm into the special worlds right now and many are excellent. They seem to have saved some of the interesting tricks for these worlds and have some great levels. Mostly, I think this is really great and I'm loving it. Yes, I do miss themed worlds a lot and I also feel that difficulty-wise in particular, there isn't a natural sense of progression - it is a bunch of levels, if you know what I mean. But many of those levels are fantastic with loads of fun.

I'm loving this, but I seem to have done everything now... I've got every gold coin for every proper level, I might not have all the cube coins yet, but I've got 306 gold coins and 337 lives... I hoped I'd unlock something for getting the gold coins for every proper level, it didn't even acknowledge my achievement, bar having a gold star over every world and 4 gold stars above my save game...
Maybe there's more cube coins, though it's not letting me in any of the cubes... I think finishing the game might reset he cubes, but I can't be bothered doing it again...
The harder version of Bowsers final stand was rather frustrating I found...
Anyone any idea's whether there's more to do? Luigi doesn't seem to make a difference...

Two bus rides in and I'm halfway through so it's definitely a short game but on the other hand it is absolutely brilliant. Given I pretty much only play handhelds when on public transport I have no issue with the difficulty as the last thing I want is frustration sections trying to make complex jumps onto tiny platforms whilst riding over speed bumps. For me the game falters in having so little content in it. Gone are the days of Mario Worlds 96 levels or Mario 64's multiple stars per stage. But on the whole a great game, my preferred handheld Mario platformer and a nice mood setter for Mario Kart 7
