    Sports Island 3d (3ds)

I decided to pick this up today as it was only ?7.98 in Game.

It could have been a lot better as they do some things right. However the problem is for everything they do right 2 things counteract it.

The game consists of 10 sports and these in themselves are very hitty missy.

    Soccer
    Snowball Fight
    Snow Racer
    Sumo
    Bowling
    Tennis
    Trampoline
    Ice Hockey
    Blow Darts
    Basketball

The highlight for me is soccer, clearly taking a leaf from Indoor Striker on the SNES, the controls work well and it feels like if you win or lose its your fault not due to the AI which i will get to in a moment.

While none of the games are broken, some such as bowling just don't feel right. No matter what you do the ball rolls at the same pace. If you are on a challenge level (where obsticles block your path to the pins (crazy golf style) you can be sure you will hit the obsticle every time, while the computer scores its 9 on every round. Basketball has similar problems, the team you face will either be awesome, stealing the ball, scoring crazy shot, after crazy shot, or they will just stand and wait to be tackled.

The structure is as good as it could be. The idea is you set up a sports team and play against other teams to try and up your score. You get to choose 1 game with the opponent choosing the next and any tie break game. Win 2 out of 3 of the sports to move up in the ranking. Each time you win a game you also get exp, and when you level up, get an exp point you can allocate to one of your team members to make them better in a certain area.

It is just a shame the sports were not better, most of these games have been done on the DS in this and other similar games so they should have learned, sadly not.

Graphics and sound are straight out of the DS version.

If you see this for ?7.98 in game you may get some enjoyment out of some of the better games for an hour or 2 but i would not suggesting paying more than that.
