    Silent Hill Downpour (PS3/360)

Well this is a cracking start so far it had taken 35 minutes to install and is making my playstation sound like its grinding a bone during install I will report back when I actually get the thing on (if it ever does)

It's installed yey. So far I have to say so good, it feels very much like a silent hill game and after an unbelievably dark first 15 mins I can see already why it's an 18. The one thing that has surprised me so far is again it introduces multiple choice consequence decisions, I don't know I these effect the story yet but if they do I'm being a very very bad guy

I work with one of the key Level Designers who worked on this and - although there were a lot of problems - it seems like it came together well ish. Hopefully.

Lots of good reviews, lots of bad too - havent played it myself yet, but really looking forward to it :-)

I'm actually loving it, looks a bit rough around the edges and I'm not really far through yet but it "feels" like a silent hill game it's certainly ten times better than homecoming

I wonder why it's had such mixed reviews?

Did Deadly Premonition? Kinda like that SHD is not as good as DP but it feels a little dated and clunky the combat is usual silent hill (crap) but it feels like Silent Hill

Hmm might have a dabble when it's out over here, but silent hill hasn't been the same since 3, and to an extent, 4.

I want to buy it, because I'm a very big SH fanboy... but... tbh... MrKirov is right SH has never really been the same for a good few years now, esp since Konami no longer dev it in house anymore. Have these devs this time round actually had any prior experience of making this genre of game before?

Any more impressions? The IGN review shocked me but then I saw most liked it more than that. I'm not surprised the music is excellent, being Daniel Licht (does the Dexter music).

Quite looking forward to playing this, I'm in an odd mood where I don't really feel like playing most things, yet have tonnes to play... hopefully I'll enjoy this

Far as I can tell I'm still pretty early in this but so far I'm really liking it. It plays pretty smooth and whilst the combat is nothing to write home about it's nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews would have it. It doesn't quite have the same sense of dread to it that SH2 and 3 had but there's still an eerie sense to it and bar once or twice it's very reserved with enemies which stops you feeling like there's no build up. The locations seem to mix up nicely too, I've only just arrived into the centre of Silent Hill after about 2 hours play.

What I'm enjoying is the lack of hand holding when dealing out objectives. It is up to you to find the side quests and how to complete them. I am really enjoying the sense of discovery in the game.

That's what caught me out, it feels really linear but it's surprisingly easy to miss an item or clue that you need and have to back track to locate it. It's less hand holding than it at first appears to have.

Had an hour on this and got pretty much nowhere as it turns out I'm now in Silent Hill and its back to old school wandering around foggy streets. Always disliked the wandering aspects of the older ones so will likely dig out an FAQ just to point me in the right direction as the more straight forward usual bits are brill. Had an encounter in a basement with a spirit which actually made me panic a bit.
