I've been waiting for this Mashed sequel for an age so I'll post my initial impressions. I've only played it for about half an hour.
Firstly, there's basically no single player modes to speak of other than some rubbish challenge mode. That's not really a problem as it's primarily a multiplayer game, but it would have been so simple to include proper races against computer cars. If you don't play with friends or online I'd definately avoid it.
The steering is analogue this time with sadly no option for customisable controls. There's an extra button for handbrake rather that just using accel and brake and the same time. On default settings the cars seem alot less twitchy and the steering is far slower than in mashed. There's a shunt / barge move mapped to the right stick, perhaps to make up for the lack of turning speed. There are other handling settings which I've not tried yet. The crazy collision physics from Mashed also seemed to have gone, for better or worse.
The racing seems as fun as ever but there are far fewer tracks than in Mashed.
Thankfully races are fully customisable so stupid stuff like air strikes can be turned off from the start.
I had a quick go online, it is fun and familiar but so far I don't think it's as good as Mashed. Initial impressions are that the weapons are less leathal. However on my third race the game froze and I had to turned off my xbox. I hope this won't be a regular occurance.
Please share you thoughts.
