Nintendo 3DS XL - review

I seem to be unable to access my Theatrhythm DLC from any other SD card than the original, even though I copied everything on to the new one. My save is there but DLC Extra Data is not recognised on the 4GB card, but still is from the old 2GB one. It seems to be the only thing that hasn't worked. Any ideas?

What about re-downloading them from in game? ie when you go into the store it shows your DLC purchases, let me know DT as i have a few DLC FF tracks.

Ah, I hadn't realised I could just redownload them. Yes I just tested that and that works although it doesn't seem to have saved my scores for those tracks - they come in fresh with no results seemingly. Not a big issue I guess. Thanks for the help!

3D on? I've noticed that on the 5 units I've used. I've turned the 3D off.

The transfer took me close to 30 minutes I reckon, everything was transfered across, although it was touch and go at first when it told me that Zelda 4 Swords would be staying on the old memory card. Thankfully even though the game has been pulled from the shop, it's still flagged in my shop account so I could just download it again. My ambassador games all made it safely across, as did my Mii data. Just be sure your connection doesn't fail during the transfer and you'll be fine.

Do we think the actual console itself is larger than the DSI XL? I'm not sure on that one.

For some reason my XL didn't reconnect or lost the wifi connection right at the end of the transfer which it only alerted me to after the content had been deleted from my 3ds.

It did transfer the data over but I could not play any ambassador games until I had entered the e-shop and re-downloaded the ambassador certificate, after that it was fine.

I know I'm stating the obvious here but the whole transferring thing is a bit of a fiasco. Such a rubbish system. The game shops in particular must be having a tough weekend. Must be said, the guys in HMV Dublin were great about the transfers and put in a system where you just bought it full price, did your transfer, brought it back where they refunded you and then sorted out the trade-in from there. Even still, that ended up with a journey in, journey home and then back again to get this XL with my data intact (almost). So messy.

It's the same with the 3D on and off. Might be just me being picky but I'll have to try a shop demo model at some point to see if it's the same.

So remember how none of my Theatrhythm songs made it over? Well they did and now they're showing up where they didn't before. Weird. Hope that's not a symptom of some read problem with the SD card. Not to worry. At least it's sorted now.

Although I'm terrified to play the likes of Theatrhythm until I get screen protectors. Didn't even think to ask for them today. Are XL protectors available? Is it me or does the bottom screen feel softer than the old 3DS screen? It reminds me more of the feel of the DSi bottom screen and has that warpy reflections thing going on.

Well i just picked up a red 3DS XL and done the transfer, which took around 30-40 minutes, plus i had to re-download most of my eshop titles, so most of the night just getting back to square one. Tomorrow it's back to Game with the 3DS and get my 100 smackers back, overall for 79.99 im pretty happy.

Why are you terrifed to play it without a screen protector? do you stab the screen or something?

Sadly yes, it comes with the territory of being a resistive screen.

BTW i forgot the screen is HHHHHHHUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEE, just like the DS XL, and Theatrhythm just is so much easier to see and play to hit the notes perfect.

I was tempted to pick one of these up to play whilst I'm away but realised that whilst ?80 on the face of it sounds ok, the fact is I already paid ?190 for the original. So the question is, is the 3DS XL worth ?270?

From what I've read in this thread it sounds like the answer is no...

Only the original ds had a tough screen, all generations after had screens that scratch pretty easy as eventually dirt & oil get on the screen & even if you are careful & keep it clean when you use the stylus you still get scratches.

For a few quid it's not worth the risk really, protectors are not that expensive.
