I doubt they, they will be trying to fend off piracy from the start, it's not like there will be any significant cost implication between pressing a DVD and a Wii-U disc.

I didn't realise that the Wii-U discs were extra round
Most have been so excited to get their discs open they haven't been noticing, but Engadget have spotted something weird on the Wii U's proprietary disc format: the discs' edges are rounded.

      1. Nintendo are the kings of pointless packaging.

      2. The back of my TV is now like spaghetti junction! A nightmare of cabling and plugs. I've put the PS2 and GC away to clear extra clutter!

      Not cool, Nintendo, not cool.

Also, the system update isn't up for Europe.yet so I'm stuck.at 1.0.2E with no MiiVerse or Netflix.

Can you change your country of origin to the US? That's what I did with mine (in Dubai), and update went through fine (eventually)....seems you can change it willy-nilly

I wonder when exactly it will go live in Europe?

Also, I have to say (after being very skeptical about the whole thing) that the gamepad is absolutely lush. The image quality is great, it has a good feel to it. Only have Nintendoland so far, and have noticed that pretty much all of the games rely 95% on the use of the gamepad screen, rather than the TV

The only thing that I can find fault with the GamePad (so far) is the lack of analogue triggers.

It's the same on the Pro Controller too. It's very comfy to hold but the lack of "triggers" is going to limit racing games.

Just a bit worried that it might affect future updates.

Is yours a US console though?

See, I checked dazza_Cole's suggestion but I can only pick Euro countries.

Now I get an error message which is apparently linked to wireless signal / DNS or summink?!

Sounds like you must have activated the self destruct sequence.

I had about 4 different error messages when doing the update, seems to be a common problem. Ended up moving the console into the same room with my router to do the update, was the only way to get it to complete!

Sounds like the problem I had. The WiiU's WiFi is pretty bad, keep it as close to the route as possible. Also set up DMZ too. That's helped the poor speeds from the servers for me.

                              Couple more impressions;

Black Ops 2 - Decent port by the looks of the first 2 levels I've done. I'm no expert with frame rates and stuff so haven't noticed any of the bad that Eurogamer were talking about. It actually, to me, seems a little smoother than the PS3 version which I recently finished. It certainly looks nicer to my eyes. No chance to try MP yet as the Euro Day 1 patch for Ninty Network still isn't up.

Sonic Transformed - Very nice. Loved it on PS3 and this version is just as good. Taken a while to get my head around the rejigged controls - in that due to the placement of the analogues the action buttons are different. "remote play" is great but looks a lot fuzzier than CoD or ZombiU do. Seems to be some artifacting too which is a slight distraction.

Hopefully, Mario, Tekken and TankTankTank tomorrow.

Not gonna bother with NintendoLand now as only 6 events can be played in SP mode so it isn't worth ?40 for that.

You're not going to bother with only one of like 3 games which can't be had on another system?

I'd have said it was the ports which aren't worth the ?40.
