[PS3 version tested]
I think somebody forgot to tell Sony Santa Monica that the Beta is finished... oh, they didn't get that memo?
Because they could've put a bit more effort into the presentation, instead of using that 'my first website' generator for their front-end and well, everything.
Regardless, it plays fine. Nothing outwardly special.
Similar to that Nintendo title. But unlike that game, the emphasis is on landing specials to K.O instead of ring-outs. Fighting mechanics wise you land combos to build AP points for your Super meter, or you can steal AP points (to bolster your own) will also build Super gauge. It levels up to three levels, and naturally the highest means better right?
In most cases, yes. Though there is naturally some imbalance to the roster, as certain characters are a lot easier to combo (or spam) and some build meter at a crazy quick rate, whilst others are quite pedestrian. Also the choices of Super moves for their respective levels seem a little out of place. As characters like Sly who has an amazingly quick lvl. 1 super and going for his lvl.2 or lvl.3 is not worth the effort. Yet Drakes Super 1 & 2 are pretty hard to land, and you have to be a specified distance for Super lvl.1 to land. Or lucky to catch them mid-air. Very tricky when one Vs. one.
I wouldn't class the character tier list is almost quite as clear cut as SSB: Brawl (Meta Knight > everyone else) as there is still a lot of experimenting to be done, but there are quite a few such as Kratos/ Raiden/ Sly/ Radec/ Sackboy which have the age old minimum input maximum output in their fighting styles.
Still, early days.
