Before Super Paper Mario on the Wii, the last Paper Mario game I played was the original on the N64. This feels very much like that from what I remember. I'm a few hours in and can honestly say I can't wait to go back.
The battle mechanics revolve around stickers that you've collected from blocks or peeled away from other objects. Initially you can only use one sticker at a time, but you can use coins to play a slot machine and if you match 2 or 3 items, that's how many stickers you can use for that battle.
Stickers come in many types and sizes, but you only have 2 pages in your sticker book to start with (I'm guessing this gets increased with time/experience). Battles are frequent enough that you never have too many, and stickers respawn when you re-enter and area you've already left.
I don't remember a world map in Paper Mario but this has one and reminds me very much of ye olde Mario games.
Very much looking forward to playing this for the rest of the day.
