Anyone play this? It's on Steam. It's a 'going for a walk' simulator that reminds me of Dear Esther in the sense that you just walk around and don't really do anything, although there is much less narrative in Proteus. Basically, you're on an island that is colourful and pixelated. Ever so slightly Minecrafty. What makes it a pleasant experience is that everything around you contributes to the soundtrack, everything is a little bit musical and it turns out quite beautiful as you walk around.
Day turns to night and there are new things to see and hear.
Ultimately, you can't really do anything but walk around and take it all in. But the environment changes and there is progression until an ending of sorts (maybe about half and hour or forty minutes in). There's not much to it but I like it. It's yet another recent experience type game, like Journey or Flower or Dear Esther, that shows you can do more (or maybe less?) with a game engine and offer a really interesting experience that doesn't require you to kill aliens.
It's interesting.
