    Crysis 3 [PC, 360, PS3] review

I'm playing on 360 version, just reached the third level and have done a little multiplayer too. I've really enjoyed all the Crysis games so high hopes for this one.

First of all, you really need to install this game to play it. Don't even try and run it from disk as it runs like a dog. Even installed it isn't perfect but if you enjoyed Crysis 2 on console then this has similar performance.

Despite being a really nicely presented game, with a cool "previously on" video and extended tutorial (which takes place outside of the campaign), the opening level is a really weak introduction but don't let that put you off. The opening's dull and bland setting soon gives way to the classic sandbox gameplay that people want out of a Crysis game, except this time they've gone to town - litterally - with the vegetation.

The 'overgrown city' style they've gone for seems to work really well, especially the tall grass which makes for some excellent firefights. In fact the firefights are in general pretty damn good, everything feels solid and the explosions all have a nice kick to them. The bow makes its Crysis debut and although it makes you even more overpowered it is massively satisfying to use. Like all weapons you can customise the bow on the fly, switching between standard arrows, explosive, electric etc. It just works.

Stealth is still stupidly effective at just bypassing everything, especially with the bow (which allows you to stay cloaked), so I recommend wacking the difficulty up a bit. The game has been pretty easy so far.

The graphics are incredible although the big leap forward in console graphics took place in Crysis 2, this is much less of an improvement but the new effects make for one lovely looking game. It sounds fantastic too (amazing soundtrack) but I do have an issue of the sound cutting out every now and then, but that might just be me.

Early on still but it feels much like Crysis 2, except the sandboxes are slightly larger and there are a few new gameplay additions such as secondary objectives, hacking, suit upgrades and challenges. None of these seem to be game changers but they are all welcome.

Multiplayer follows the same template as every post-COD4 shooter, can't really say anything about it except it runs a hell of a lot better than the beta did.

AI was **** on Crysis 2 (PS3), which I really enjoyed otherwise. How do these grunts perform?

Loving this so far , the AI lets the game down a bit but its so much fun it doesn't matter . The graphics are phenomenal on the 360 and the sound effects even better.

Just finished the game, 8 hours was my playtime, on Post Human Warrior difficulty.
All in all the environments and settings were stunning. It was great to have Psycho back for a good human heart to the story, and classic raptor team banter.
The bow was also freaking awesome, although I suspect my difficulty setting restricted the amount of arrows i could hold, 9 for normals, 3 each for specials. Thank god you can pick the normal arrows back out the enemies impaled corpses.

*edit*woah woah ok it turns out Origins "time played" is total lies! Its what i was using to gauge my playtime. However if i goto crysis 3 campaign menu it gives me another time, 5hours 47 minutess. damnnn i knew this game felt short

Anyway so the negative, ultimately its still falls flat compared to Crysis 1/Warhead.
I never really felt pushed by the AI, they are just cattle for the most part. The only difficulty comes artificially with enemy groups spawning in (same as cry2) as well as enemies shifting to full alert behaviour if you so much as snap a twig. Although I guess thats arguably ok considering the massive threat you are in the suit.

Its hard to describe..I dunno, its on par with cry2, so yeah an ok game, looks incredible, good for a bit of fun but its to late to steer back to Cry1 glory.

Word from mycrysis.com forums are that crytek have made the same multiplayer mistakes as cry2, leaving the pc version complete unsecured and easily exploitable. What were they thinking...sigh

*edit* actually i sat and thought about it a little more, to be fair the AI is an improvement over cry2. They now investigate areas/noises/bodies, call in sightings, call for support etc. You can also take out the guy at the back of a group without alerting the others etc. So that's all very welcome.
However as i said about them being cattle, its the 'dead space 2-3 argument' ive used before, because you're so in control of the character and so well equipped, its easy to never really feel threatened or pushed, because with a little bit of planning and such any enemy can be easily overcome.

thanks for the impressions Pete. as for the sound problems, i experience these drop outs with Crysis 2 too and it seems like the 360 has just too much work load to handle. glad to hear the soundtrack is good. is it done by Hans Zimmer again? the Crysis 2 main theme done by him is one of my favourite game scores of all time.

can you please compare it to Crysis 2? first time i've played through Crysis 2 on average difficulty it took me about 15 hours. so the 5 to 10 hours some people claim to have used seem to be comparatively cheap. but i guess the variety is due to the open world gameplay and the possibility to sneak through the environments at will.

Hey Uli, unfortunately I have no clue what my playthro time on crysis 2 is since ive uninstalled/reinstalled so many times.

This probably isnt helpful but i originally wrote "it feels shorter than cry2" but omitted it
*edit* after a bit of research, i went to youtube searched for cry2 walkthroughs, and just looking at peoples playlist total time, it ranges from 5 to 12 hours, not exactly that clear research but could help

Oh and a nod to my gameplay, it was generally 8 hours of stealth thro each landscape, ranged combat with the bow, or many stealth takedowns.

Had a rattle on the ps3 version and its very impressive. Textures/resolution are abit muddy and the frame rate is below 30fps

A great story and agreat fallout 3 'vista' moment at the start

                              Very impressed
