    Call of Juarez: Gunslinger review

This is live now and it's been quite interesting so far. It's not really a sequel to the series as it's a much more straight forward affair with a subtle arcade scoring/xp system in place.

The game is run via the same engine that supported the previous game and the Dead Island series though this is probably its most solid workout with a steady framerate and hardly any tearing though much less is going on with a comic style slight outline giving some styling to the visuals.

The game lifts CoD's controls and mostly plays on Bound inn Bloods gimmicks like bullet dodging and quick draws. I can't imagine it's a long game so even at ?11.99 it might be a stretch but it's alright and some of the series charm is back. Really makes you wonder just what the hell went on with the third game.

Finished this now and overall really enjoyed it, it never attempts to be more than a basic FPS but its mostly entertaining because it's so straightforward. At the very least a big return to form after the abysmal COJ3

Working my way through arcade mode first. First CoJ game I've played but like it a lot. Just wish the would do RDR on PC.

Playing this on the PC. Wow, for the money it is amazing, the production values are better than most games for ?35-?40. Very impressed. I do love westerns as well, my fave game has to be Red Dead Redemption.

Played this a lot and now playing it in Western difficulty and seen the revenge and redemption endings

For a ?10 or free game using PSN+ it's fantastic

Took a while to get not the gunslinging until I realised you could move to dodge the bullet but beating Jesse James with a headshot and 0.1s draw time makes you feel good

Yeah good old FPS and does exactly what it says on the tin

I got both earlier, both put a MASSIVE grin on my face, and are pretty small downloads, surprisingly - both are well chunky, visually. Yeah, loved the first two Juarez games, this is definitely old skool COJ in spirit, clicky-clacky super-old guns and it all looks lush and atmospheric...actually forgot I had it free on PS+ but hey ho, this is the type of game I like having easy access to on both!

Just one thing. Is Cartel really THAT ****e? Had it for eons on PS3, tested it out once and it seemed competent but dull compared to the Old West setting of yore, never went back to it but it wasn't THAT cack, what I played of it, just a bit slouchy...seriously, can't be as **** as that PS2 Bin Laden **** that came on a ****ey blue disc (forgot its name!), CAN it?

Ah, got it now, whilst draining my bladder. 'America's 10 Most Wanted'. Not even sure it was on a 'bluey' anymore, now. Life.
