in Arcade HD and Ver 1.5:

Military Clothing (1st option) = Shot powerup, 3 bombs. Your auto-shot is increased in power.
Casual Clothing (2nd option) = Laser powerup, 2 bombs. Your laser is increased in power.
Swimsuit (3rd option) = Expert mode, 1 bomb. Both your auto-shot and laser are increased in power, but the game is much, much harder.

    In Xbox 360 mode:

Military Clothing (1st option) = Easy mode. I think your shot is still powered up.
Casual Clothing (2nd option) = Normal mode. Again, I think the laser is still powered up, but the difficulty is increased.
Swimsuit (3rd option) = Expert mode. Both are powerful, but you gon' die.

I also think the type you choose depends on what you should be killing enemies with in order to get large medals. This is a big deal in Version 1.5.

If you go Military (shot type) and kill enemies primarily with your laser, you won't be getting as high value medals as if you were to choose laser type, and kill enemies with your laser. This is pretty vital to know from a scoring / hyper perspective.

In version 1.5, if you use a Hyper over Level 6, then ALL medals dropped from enemies throughout the hyper are large medals.

Also, the higher your hit gauge, the faster your hyper gauge raises when you collect medals.

I've gotten to a point with laser type now where I can release a level 8 hyper just before the Stage 2 midboss, and time it perfectly so as soon as it ends, I can recharge a level 4-5 hyper straight away, laser a few more enemies, build a level 6 hyper and release it straight away. That's two massive hyper charges that drop huge score/medal bonuses, and I end up with a 10,000 hit by end of stage. It's brilliant.

Played the 360 mode mainly tonight, great great stuff. Enjoyed it a lot, level 4 from the mid-level boss onwards goes mental though, so I am hanging around stage 4 when I die.

          Thanks for the tips Silvergun

The Xbox 360 mode in this is just bloody fantastic. Its near perfect IMO. Still can't progress past mid-boss on level 4, but I don't think I ever will. I've experienced level 5 and it is insane!

The ONLY thing I can find fault is that in that mode the side windows don't work, which is a little bit annoying when you are doing score attack, as if I am half-way through a level I can't tell if I am doing better than my last run.

I find the fourth midboss easier than the third. But from level 4 I go into survival mode and I stop exchanging the green bar for powered-up shots. Anyway, I always start on one of the sides, to weaken the satellites. As the midboss starts to release the drones, I move to the centre and prevent them to spawn too many bullets. A well-placed hyper after that should make a short work of the remaining health bar.
