Killzone: Mercenary multiplayer beta [PSVita] review

I thought I would give this a quick go...and hours later I'm still playing. I can't decide if I love it or hate it.

The beta is multiplayer only as you could guess from the title. The weapons are purchasable via money earned in-game but load-outs can't be changed during the game. When there are 5 sections, each lasting 5 minutes, exiting to change is a pain in the behind. Extra load-outs can be unlocked as you rank up.

It looks great but I feel a little that the nature of the sticks on the Vita hold it back. I'm not going to get the full game on release but can see why others might.

For reference, I've enjoyed the campaign on Killzone 3 but haven't dabbled in the MP much.

There's only one map to try. The graphics are really pretty. But I wish I didn't have to learn how to play by die and retry.
    It's enjoyable.
I didn't understand how the mini games work to unlock cylinders on the map.

You tap one of the pop ups to make two of the triangles in the centre disappear and then do the same with another shape to make the final two triangles disappear.

Was on the private beta for this which has now gone into public beta so I can talk about it. so the private beta had two maps and two game modes mercenarys and the twenty minute one mentioned above,

mercenarys was death match with a twist and I really liked what it was doing to freshen it up, you get money for kills scavenging body's and stealing players unique cards, so its not all about the kill, if someone gets the players weapons and card before you they get money for them items so there a real risk in looting body's, for one you have made a lot of noise and your going to be pinging up on other players mini maps, and often players get shot becuse there in exposed areas. Also in this mode there are weapon drops that ping up on your mini map and are really worth going for as some special weapons are ace, the half life two style man hacks are leathal, these weapon drops discourage camping and also very risky to get as everyone is after them, I've often sat back at a nice vantage point and picked off people going for them to scoop up the weapons for myself but getting them is always a risky venture but worth doing.

The private beta had two maps both where well designed and fantastic fun to play. I was a bit sad when I logged on one eve to find that the beta had finished to make way for the public one. Having youg kids it made a nice change to be able to play a console style shooter at tea time and not haveto fight for the tv or worry about playing games that are not sutible for them, I have this on preorder cant wait for it.

          Thanks. I'll try later.

How can we disappear from the radar? is it by walking slowly? Not moving, shooting? Crouching?

I keep seeing opponents appearing and disappearing on the radar.

I think the beta is fun and the game looks very promising indeed! I really hope the sp is more than a few hours long, as the visuals are close to ps3 in quality. Outstanding achievement by gorilla Cambridge.

mp mode is fun and the map size and weighting seem good for a mobile game, the controls work very well for me too.

This is a day 1 purchase for me.
