    F1 2013 review

Let me begin by saying I only played F1 2012 for a short time so will not be making direct comparisons. I did play the previous F1 titles a lot.

First up I have to the game looks and sounds great. The graphic are the best I have seen yet form Codemasters F1 outings. They are crisp, bright and really add to the experience.

The game gives you several play options all access buy an easy to use, smart looking interface. I bought the standard game and have the choice of F1 Classics, Grand Prix, Career, Muliplayer, Proving Grounds and My F1

The F1 Classics allows to chose from several classic cars and drivers and have a race. The cars and drivers is not a full set from the past due to licensing issues (so no Ayrton Senna). I raced as Emerson Fitapaldi in the Lotus Turbo. No Kers, DRS etc, it is great fun especially racing on Silverstone. You have your work cut out racing these boys, but it is still perfectly controllable, just more skill is needed!

The Grand Prix allows you to jump into a Grand Prix anywhere in the world and you can complete the whole race weekend or jump straight into a race. I like this mode as it a good way to learn the track and get used to the AI of the drivers, they quite aggressive now and I have have some good races and wheel to wheel action.

Career is what it says on the tin. I am into my second race weekend and enjoying the challenge. You can race up to 5 seasons with the obvious goal of winning the world championship (I dream!).

Multiplayer I have not tried yet

Proving Grounds is a great section. You are given specific tasks to achieve, e.g. finish ahead of you team mater and they harder and harder. Getting the Gold Medal for these will take commitment, but they are fun. In my second challenge I had to catch and beat Paul Di Resta by 10 seconds within 3 laps. It took some doing, but it was great fun eeking out quicker times on each bend. I will be playing this mode a lot.

My F1 lets you choose all the games settings see you stats.

In terms of controls, even with my PS3 pad the game feels a lot better than before, it is responsive but not 'twitchy'. If you go the track it is usually your fault. I have completed races without crashing but you do need to concentrate!. If you screw up the functional to backtrack a few seconds is still there, but there is a limit to how many times you can do this. Like all games, it is better with a steering wheel set up, so I have ordered one and it will be here by wednesday. I will give additional comments after I had chance to use it.

Best of is the new "IN RACE SAVE"! You save a race at any point and pick it up from the save point later. This has proved to great already. No more sitting in one place for two hours to complete a full grand prix, just save when you want and pick up the race later.

Overall for this a great package, I love the feel, look and variety of modes on offer. I would give it 9/10.

Unfortunately I didn't find out until after purchase that split-screen multiplayer is still only 1v1, even though in the 2010 (maybe it was 2011 edition) you could play the entire season in local co-op mode.

      UPDATE:

Got the Thrustmater Ferrari F430 Wheel set up now. My is it ever hard work using a real wheel! But love it.

Played online and it sometimes you get good games, but for best games, set up a private race, invites only and get your mates in it plays really well.

One thing, playing this is knackering, you really have concentrate, so the mid game save has been a lifesaver for me!
