Rain is a simple stealth platformer it's indie twist is when your in the rain you cant be seen and have form, when your not you can't be seen. you play a little boy chasing a girl and trying to work out whats happened to you. it reminds me a bit of ico as it steals it's style and has a simplified companion aesthetic. This should be a great game, the music is fantastic, the set up is brilliant and the soaked Parisian streets really are a great setting for a game, but it just doesn't quite all gel.
Levels are very linear there is no exploration at all and nothing whatsoever to do except progress the camera kind of guides you with invisible walls everywhere, it feels like your being pushed down a set path 90% of the time. Chase sections are thrown in to speed things up a bit. your chased by this shadow demon called "the unknown" and he pops up throughout but never really by surprise, he's always sort of announced. when his section Is over he pretty much just wanders off, the game tells you too via narrative that he's gone, this kills any sort of feeling that he could pop back up at any time, other enemy's include little crabs a giant headbutt monster thing and some dogs, all take on the form of shadow monsters and have very poor AI.
It isn't a bad game it just i'snt amazing either the music (headphones are a must) fits perfectly with the setting, and the atmosphere is creepy and sad at the same time. it's a nice game while it lasts, but it's a short game and it's quite easy too, I still enjoyed soaking up the atmosphere but it might not be for everyone.
It's ?10 price tag isn't really value for money either considering how little content there is here, a new game + mode adds hidden collectables to the mix but these should of been here from the start, encouraging a bit more exploration of the environments and having something other to do than just progress would have made the levels feel a bit more interesting.
