This'll end up as a tech review thread.
Straight away at the main menu you can tell it's running at a higher resolution and frame rate with the menu looking incredibly smooth but it does also give a very motion flow feel at times lol. All clicky sounds when navigating the menu come from the DS4.
There is some new content in the extras section. All the final hours videos are there unlike the original release, there's also an art book and the original pre-order comic which isn't too bad. I also surprised to see it had an option for voice commands.
Now onto the game itself. Lara's herself is much more lifelike with the new face, unfortunately her companions clearly couldn't afford the plastic surgery but luckily they don't stick out too much. Content wise things are still the same and all improvements are technical and visual. However I have heard one scene is slightly edited but I can't confirm and I noticed Lara was dirty in the Endurance video recording we see at the first camp.
I've played up to the first area and it's beautiful with the trees rustling and swaying in the wind, I think this would be amazing with some headphones. One of the first thing that struck me was how natural the ripples in a puddle were when Lara dragged her feet along it in the initial walk to the first camp.
The tressfx is a good improvement over the PC funky physics but still isn't perfect. The opening sequence had Lara hanging upside down but gravity had no effect on her hair. With the improvements they've made I'm sure these things are next to be tweaked.
As for the frame rate, I'm not amazing at reading these things but the game seems to be running smooth and I can't really notice the dips mid play. Going by analytical videos I can say that those early segments with the frame dips have gone by unnoticed.
They've really put the PS4 to work, the game looks great and it only shows how much better it can become with the second game. The game is a technical marvel and I can only see CD improving upon this. If this is what the PS4 is capable of only three months into release I can't wait to see what we'll be seeing further down the line from the likes of Nixxes and CD.
capcom_suicide asked if it's worth a purchase for people who've played the original. I can't really answer that as I think it depends on the type of gamer you are.
Personally I played the hell out of the original release on PS3 and also played around with the PC version. I'm not really one to replay games often and I'm not sure how far I'll get with this but it's a beautiful game and my main reason for picking it up is wanting to see the improvements first hand. So for me alone just being able to see the game in all it's marvel and what the PS4 can deliver was worth the price.
