    Thief review

Erm... I cancelled my order but seems I placed one elsewhere before and forgot. Guess I can't complain at ?33.95, shame no tin case but nonetheless its something for my PS4 to do.

Anyway played half an hour so far, just the linear prologue and a tiny bit of chapter one.

Straight off the bat there's plenty of options to customise your play through, you have 3 base difficulties and then you can switch different in game features on and off to create a more challenging game, you can even make things more difficult by turning off HUD elements.

I've started on normal, features all left in their default but with all hub options off but then I had no clue what to do in the first 5 minutes so switched on the mini-map, interactive highlights and button prompts. WHO KNEW YOU COULD PRESS SQUARE TO OPEN THE DAMN WINDOW? I turned off the button prompts after, I think I've learned if it glows I can press square to interact.

Great game so far, I've now turned on the way marker as I'm not too big on open world games and how am I supposed to know where the clock tower is?

Perhaps you could try looking for it, old fashioned style? Clocktowers tend to be quite noticeable and stick up above rooftops.

Not feeling this, very underwhelmed based on first 30 minutes. The thing with playing games like this that have no daytime scenes hide the cracks very well. Looks the most like a last gen game I've played so far on PS4 and plays just as clunky as the pc originals. Garrett seriously needs to learn how to defend himself too. Not very true to life is it, having to run from a single guard.

Having finished chapter one now I think I could turn it off. The game is still somewhat linear, the paths to take are pretty obvious.

Gameplay seemed fine on the PS4 with little dips but the end cutscene of the prologue was juddertastic. The opening to chapter one was also odd with the subtitles playing catch up.

I'm still installing, so I don't know if that has an effect, it hasn't on anything else.

on the plus side, it's a lovely looking game.

                  Hmmmm...

On the PS4 it's the FMVs that are bugged. They run at a low frame rate causing the audio to mess up.

Fair bit of judder on PS4 version too but though early I'm enjoying it, I can see how Dishonored is much better but still seems decent enough

I bet they've just turned on v-sync but it runs sub 30

Been playing more of this, it opens up a little bit after the first chapter, but unfortunately it's not particularly good,

                        The AI is absolutely atrocious
Your character's mobility feels really limited, only confined to predetermined climb points and beams. After playing dishonored and the Titanfall beta or Assassin's Creed, this feels really limiting and frustrating.

Graphically it's pretty good, still a be 360/PS3, but the textures are really high res and the fog/darkness and lighting look nice.

If I'm being honest, though the structure is pretty linear even if you go for all sidequests, I'm enjoying this. It's a fairly old school design game but at no point have I been bored. Dishonored gives better character control but also never embraced full freedom either though I get why these types don't. I'm enjoying rooting through the homes and sneaking across rooftops and alleys. It may get old before it ends but at the moment, Ch2, it's fine.

On my way to chapter 3. I'm enjoying this. Cancelled my preorder but ended up buying it on PSN instead. I love that Garret still can't defend himself worth a damn. Giving him fighting skills would take more away than it would add. So far, it's pretty easy to escape the guards anyway.

The 3p sequences are atrocious, but thankfully very short.

It's not Thief 1 or 2 or even 3, but still a good game. Much better than I expected it to be.
