    Yoshi's New Island 3DS review

Well this popped through the letterbox this morning after I forgot I pre ordered it months ago.
Only just seen the review round-up on C&VG and can't say I agree with the low marks it's had.The rough sketched graphics are not up there with the original excellent pastel shaded artwork but the 3d depth works as does the games soundtrack.Gameplay wise it seems solid enough and the gyroscope level additions seem to work and not that gimmickry.
I knew deep down it wasn't going to take the original's crown but I am enjoying the game, control is tight and level design seems good.If you are are fan of the original and can find it at reasonable price take a look

Nice to here some positivity, The main issue the reviews seem to be putting forward including edge is they have slowed down the controls, dose it feel sluggish?

Feels ok to me it plays like yoshi's island and perhaps thats the problem for reviewers. They were expecting a great graphical jump and game play advances but it didnt happen.I was really worried about the game especially as I forgot I pre ordered and my card was charged but I'm not disappointed.Yes its not a stunner but the graphics in a weird way have some charm and the music for the first two worlds has been good.I haven't got passed world 2 at the moment but like I say if your a Yoshi fan and pick it up at a reasonable price I dont think you be disappointed

Totally agree with you , it's a good game and the reviews have been way too harsh :S I'm quite shocked because the game is full of charm and some great ideas.

It was strange for me as I've just come off nights and unwrapped it and played to world 2-2 and then seen the review round-up and I'm thinking to myself am I playing a different game??.It plays, sounds and looks to a degree like Yoshi's Island

Seems to me that the reviews for this are low because reviewers are comparing it to the original Yoshi's Island and not judging it on its own merit. Even if it doesn't match the original it still looks charming and more fun than a lot of the crap that we get these days. Ive not played the game yet but I will get it eventually, despite the average reviews.

              Here's a positive review

Yoshi's New Island is a great game. That's because it's made by Nintendo, and Nintendo games rarely fall below a certain quality threshold. Nintendo knows how to put out entertaining titles better than almost anyone else in the industry, and this game is no ex...

...And I'd have to agree with that reviewer so far. I've only played the first world (before my son nabbed the game), but there's nothing wrong with it - how some reviewers have managed to rate it with 4s or 5s is beyond me. It's not a speedy platformer like Mario, it's a slow-paced collect 'em up with bags of charm and personality. A solid 7.5/10 for me.

Finally playing it today and echo the 8/10ish feeling. I'm feeling the same fuzziness as I did with Yoshi's Island. Finished the first world and have already replayed to get MOAR collectibles. Do you guys play with the patient controls? I can't remember if I preferred the release to fire way...

So far, I will have to disagree with these posts, I am quite disappointed with this. I picked it up, expecting fantastic things, I stayed clear of any reviews etc, and I just feel like no love has really gone into it. The art style does not live up to the original, although it its in the same vein, however Im not putting my feelings solely on the graphics. There is no spark in the game play, im going to complete it, however so far im very disappointed. So far the controls are not an issue, I can see where the sluggish comments are coming from however, but its not that bad.
