I had been following this game for a bit as it reminded me a bit of Metroid Fusion so was delighted to see it released last week for a rather reasonable ?8.99 on the WIIU Eshop.
The genre of the game falls very much into that of Fusion, platform shooter with the odd puzzle. The idea is to rescue a set number of cats from each level. Though the game does nothing to explain to you what to do, i spent my first through goes at level 1 trying to get the cat at the exit gate, unknowingly that being at the exit gate means it has been collected. The game does nothing to guide the player. You are not told how to rescue each cat and this can be a tad frustrating to begin with. However i did then figure out that the cats are always rescued in the same way on each level.
You get 1 cat for finding and exiting the level, another for collecting all coins in a level, another is obtained by chasing a cat to various points of a level against a countdown clock, the final is for beating a mini boss. Initially i was frustrated by the game, no explanation of the controls had me guessing and no clear objectives had me about to give up.
However as time went on something just started to click and bits started to fall into place. Don't get me wrong this game is a hard game and it does not go easy on you at any point, however as you get use to the design and what the developer intended i started to realize just how much of a unique and balanced game this was. The game never really asks you to do much of 1 thing but expects you to be good at everything to achieve perfection on each level.
The game is quite a short one only packing 25 levels (i think as i don't have all cats on every level) and the included challenge mode does nothing to extend things as there is no online leader boards to compare with friends.
The game is also crying out for a multiplayer, the gameplay mechanics lends it self so well to multiplayer, hopefully if it gets a sequel that will be considered.
For those looking for a challenge and something a bit unique this is the game for you
