I'm not a fan of the multiplayer - why stray away from Halo, which is great, and give us some weird CoD in space hybrid? - and single player is pretty samey. It's certainly not a patch on Halo's. But playing with a few mates is brilliant fun. So far i'd say Destiny needs to be played with people on comms.

Wow just wow, I can't believe Bungie would be that stupid. Just inserted the PS3 disc into my machine and didn't have the internet connected turns out that the game on the actual disc is the Beta...........
Guessing the patches are what undo the Beta.
[Edit] Yep now patched Beta message now gone, least have though the retail version would have a non-beta front screen.Last edited by S3M; 10-09-2014, 10:30.

I'm really enjoying this. Got to
the moon
with level 8 so pretty much where the Beta left off and about a qurater through the campaign. It's terrific when everything kicks off and you're caught with other players in the midst of
Fallen and Hive going at each other. Although I don't see why they'd do that seeing as they're all meant to be in service to 'THE DARKNESS'
. Not that the hokey plot matters really, or the awful voice acting, which goes from comically over-earnest - e.g.
boss of the Titan clan or robot weaponsmith with regional drawl
- to utterly can't be arsed - e.g.
the ghost and the multiplayer voice over
. Fishbowlhead is right about the needless difficulty of getting coop working, which is not helped by lack of in-game comms in favour 4 useless gestures. I'm enjoying Control on multiplayer where the special abilities refresh the usual formula a bit, but in the straightforward deathmatch modes they seem to serve only to make a bit of a mess of things. All in all it's 'just' a grab-bag of a whole bunch of FPS staples with the joins smoothed over pretty nicely. I also like the smooth integration of RPG elements - so easy to compare stats, clear crap from inventory, et.c RPG afficionados would no doubt sniff at this as RPG-lite, which I guess it is, but at least you don't have to faff about in menus comparing numbers for any length of time. Considering buying a new spaceship but I don't know if there's any point other than cosmetic...
Right now I can say I could never play this for anything near approaching ten years, but it'll do for a few enjoyable weeks of popcorn entertainment.

old news destiny requires an internet connection to work you cant play it offline at all, its always connected to the servers, my two boots to the title screen when i was playing solo really made me question why this is the case.

@speedy, it looks pretty good for a current gen, id say it was just upscaled with some extra assets for ps4, xbone. Your guna get exact same experience on all consoles whatever you get. If you only have ps3, 360, the extra for the new console and game isn't going to blow your mind or even warrant the extra really, in my opinion, waiting for a pc version would be daft too.

As someone who is massively on the fence about buying Destiny, I found this early impression discussion from Kotaku the most informative out there so far. Would you guys agree with it?
Will be getting one of those sexy white PS4s when they're available solus, or potentially with Destiny soon, just waiting to see how longer term reviews pan out. Seems a proper mixed bag of opinions out there.

Those early impressions mirror my time with the Alpha and match my predictions for the game. Unlikely to be any fun whatsoever on your own and missing the magic of Borderlands when you're in a group. High budget mediocrity. Note that I haven't played the finished game (although going by what the giantbomb guys say, perhaps I actually have). Hope those that are enjoying it continue to but I would urge any that are enjoying it but never tried Borderlands 2 with friends to do so.
EDIT: note though that Borderlands suffers similar level disparity issues as are present here.
