    Rainbow Six: Siege review

Not exactly a review, but yer.

    Is anybody else playing?

It's a top game as far as gameplay goes. Without doubt lacking in content for a full-price release, but the year-long free DLC saves it.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

How's getting into games? Have the servers been having some problems?

Servers are fine. I guess the beta scared people off, but there are zero problems with the game proper.

I've had server problems on Xbox One. Takes a few attempts to connect and you basically have to leave it on the main menu for five minutes.

That said it's a great return for the series and it's very original in the way it plays. I'd love to see more open levels if possible with more mid range fights. Sometimes it reminds me of that naked gun sketch with them on either side of a bin taking pot shots...

It's another game that's lacking in content a bit and the way the unlocks are structured (doubling each time you unlock a specialist), it's trying to get you to purchase the "Renown" microtransaction experience booster. "The developers estimate most players will earn around 1,000 Renown for each hour of gameplay" - the first unlock is 500 renown and increases from there. There are something like twenty unlocks and the post launch operators will be 25,000 Renown.

Which by my calculations totals approximately 25,000 - so 25 hours to unlock all the specialists in the base game and 25 hours for each of the DLC operators (you can't have multiple of the same specialist on a team, so if you haven't unlocked one that's not been picked, you're stuck with a recruit class). You can replay the single player Situation maps and earn renown off those.

          (1 - 500, 2 - 1000, 3 - 1500, 4 - 2000) * 5 service types

Although you can go "lone wolf" on the terrorist hunt stuff, realistically it's a multiplayer game only because you'll be slaughted trying to get anywhere on your own. This leads to the other main issue with the game, unless your team is working together on the objective, you'll be slaughted by a team that is. From the games I've played people rarely wear headsets, so when you die then you'll just be watching the game with nothing to do as there are no respawns in any game mode.

If you can get it for cheap then it's worth a look, but no way I'd want to pay ?40-50 for this, on the plus side all additional map packs will be free and there are eleven maps and three PvP game modes (bomb, hostage, area secure), four PvE game modes (terrorist hunt classic, bomb, hostage, asset protection) and Situation single player maps to start. I haven't had any issue with connecting to games on the PC version but it loses points because UPlay.

          6/10.

The unlocks are 500, 1000, 1500 and then 2000 per CTU on PS4.

Odd that it's different on PS4, maybe it caps out lower than the DLC, I haven't searched for the costs, just what I've seen for myself so far.

Edit - it is the same, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 so I'm not sure where I got those other figures in my head from, will update the post above with the correct unlock amounts.

Had a few go's having picked it up with remaining credit and... I'm starting to kind of love it. I'm not sure how much play it will get in the long term but at the moment it's nice to play something that feels properly tactical. Been worth muting the other players though, dam Clancy communities.

I'm loving it. If any of you peeps on PS4 aren't on my friends list, send me a request. With a team on mics, THunt on this is amazeballs.

Only played 2 pvp games, lucky my teammates were friggin awesome so 2 flawless wins out of 2! Been hammering THunt mostly, but haven't been able to get online for over a week so very few operators have been unlocked.

It has very obvious limitations but its a game where at 1.30am I say, just one more game.....

A while later and all the criticisms the game gets still stand but by god if it hasn't distracted me from the other online shooters. Great fun, would have been perfect if it was a more complete package. 8/10

I can only play a few games at a time now. I properly hammered it at first, but I'm desperately waiting for the first DLC to refresh it.

Ive just picked this up after enjoying the beta. So far ibhavent experienced any issues with getting into games but im still getting to grips with the way that it throws you about from squad to squad inbetween matches. Just means you have to l8nk yourself to players with the squad thing.
I would also say that though im enjoying it it gets b3tter if you find a few chatty folk. A lot of players dont speak even when they have mics on and everythung gets easier qnd smoother with some communication.
Im on the xbone if anyone wants a squadmate whos wiilling to chat.

Well, this is a cracking game right here. A bit intimidating at first due to all the different operators and their tools, the maps, the intensity in-game, but I am loving it now. I'm still a noob as I've only had it 3 days, but having a right good time. Done all the Situation missions, so now I'm getting involved with the mp mode. This is a thinking mans beard cupping joint, that's so intense it will make you look like you're on a world saving mission when anyone enters the room. Your face will tell them to shush.

Forgot to ask, anyone suffering laggy rubber band stuck suckness? I get it nearly every game, not all the time, but enough to think this game has broken net code on PS4.

I have found severs with a rubber banding. It happens on occasion and there are a few other bugs like getting stuck on rappels and vaulting (you can un stick yourself by going prone). There is a patch due next week for consoles (pc got it this week) which will hopefully fix a few things.

Despite the odd glitch and servers falling apart under christmas load im still loving it. Had a good few games last night where 4 out of 5 of us had mics on and were chatting awayou and we were destroying opposing teams. Communication trumps all in this game. It's great. If anyone wants some games on Xbox drop me a line.
