A friend of mine picked this up in the recent sale (its about a tenner cheaper at the moment) and invited me to play with him, only one of you needs to own the game and you can download a 7 gig friend client that contains the full game the only caveat to this is you can't earn trophy on the friend client. It wasn't really on my radar despite really enjoying their previous game A Way Out.
This is a very different game to that though, this is a 3d platform game where you play one of two characters who are in the process of going through a divorce, your daughter wishes you could stay together on a magic book and you are transformed into tiny toys and forced to work together to get back to your real bodys, this sees you traveling though a series of environments centered around your house from the shed to the garden to play rooms ect their all lovingly crafted and really fun to explore.
To say this is a joy to play is an understatement, every level brings with it new and interesting mechanics and they all feel tightly designed and like they could of built a whole game around them, yet their tossed aside for something new each level. The way it just abandons whole mechanics to introduce fresh new ones keeps things barreling along and makes the game feel like one of the most inventive platform games Ive played in a long while. Some of the levels really are an absolute riot too and its been a long while since a game had me laughing out loud while playing, you really need to communicate too its vital to progression. for example one section that really stood out to me is where
It's also darkly comedic at times too their is one shockingly horrible scenes where an entire level is centered around
To say it made me stop and say "what are we doing this is horrible" is an understatement
.
Dotted through the world are various mini games too and they can bring out some serious competitive streaks, playing whack a mole or a track and field style mini game against each other is a great distraction. if you have a partner or close friend you often play with i cant recommend this game highly enough clear a few evenings and sit back and enjoy it, it has around a ten hour runtime so is a bigger game than a way out too.
