Sound! You should be able to buy a naffed up old casey that looks like it's been kicked all over a school yard!

I'm not sure I agree about the keepers being crap in WE8. I just played a co-op match with a buddy as the Czech republic against Brazil, and 4-4 , the Czechs 2 players down, and going into extra time.
In the first half of extra time, brazil score early, but miraculously the czech boys equalise from a corner in the last minute.
So, into the second half of injury time then, and brazil again make use of the barron defence and score early. What followed was some of the most outstanding keeping I've ever seen in WE. Shots from point blank range were somehow being saved left, right and center, and in one instance Baros had a shot from 4 yards saved by the keepers flailing foot, after he dived the wrong damn way.
In the end, the czechs desperation didnt reap another last minute equaliser and brazil won. But the keeping was out of this world.

Is anyone else finding games are very high scoring compared to WE7? Im constantly having 5-4, 6-2 etc games, and having at least 45 shots a match.
Oh, and how do you pull of that trick shot when you shot with one foot behind the other leg? Cant see it on any move lists.

Just wondering, I presume everyone on here as some form on webspace on the net? If so, we should start taking small movies with digi cams of any outstanding goals/skills we've pulled off. I havent got any of my WE7 quality crackerjacks yet on WE8, but it would be fun to see everyones piledrivers!

All my matches have been 1-0, 0-0, etc.. I think the most interesting was 2-2. Unless of course you count the time I got thrashed 4-0 by Brazil in the semis of a cup.

What level are you playing at Dave? I always set it at 5-stars now that I'm used to the controls, perhaps the reasoning behind my stalemate matches. 80% of my games consist of midfield play with plenty of throw-ins and the odd free kick - nothing heart-stoppingly exciting yet.

I've seen some real blunders by the AI, not just the keepers but the defenders scoring own goals 'Virtua Striker' style too. I wish I had the cash for a camera, it's worth buying one just to record my gaming at the moment. I'd like to record some GradiusV in order to look back and critisise my flight pattern.

I recently bought a digital camera so would be well up for making some vids and getting them on the net. Not entirely sure how though, and i have no web space, so if someone can help, im up for putting some goals up.

Dave I'm playing on 5 star, 30 minute games and generally only use either Japan or the Czech Republic. My style of play generally consists of spreading the play using wing backs or midfielders, and relying on whipped in crosses or players cutting back across the park.
If I play with teams like real madrid it becomes fifa-style goal fests every game, hence me choosing Japan (who are **** in WE8 ) and a middle of the road squad like the Czech Republic.

I too have seen some shocking keeping and defending, just like in WE7, but overall its a huge improvement. Keepers can actually save headers now it seems, and as I mentioned earlier, some of the defending Ive seen has been right out of the top drawer.

However, has anyone else noticed that the free kicks the cpu takes in its own half are commonly utter ****? We're talking rolling passes that are easily intercepted or just way off the mark.

Oh, regarding webspace, Ive got 30meg from my blueyonder account. I'm not sure how large a movie of a goal would be, but if I'd be more than willing to hold anyones movies for a short time. Now all I need to do is score some screamers to show to the world.... !>_<!

I must say I'm disappointed by WE8. The slowdown is just too much whenever there's a scramble in the box. The keepers seem piss-poor too.

Slowdown isnt that bad though it still doesnt stop it being a big dissapointment id agree.
Though with the keepers id say theyve become much better in all aspects especially against headers. The one are that needs improvement though is 1 on 1 when theyre chipped. They go to ground too easily.

I haven't found the slowdown too bad. Granted it is a bit iffy with corners and goal mouth scrambles, but i can live with it.

dave heats, i love playing with the Czechs as well. Get them crosses into Koller who can either knock them in or knock them down to Baros. GOAL!!!

Haha, yeah when hes used right the mutant Koller is awesome, but I tend to sub him off in favour of Baros these days. My clutch player for the Czechs is unsurprisingly Nedved though, he is simply phenomenal and can score/switch the play like a bitch on heat.

Im dissapointed at your dissapointment kub.

                        Comment

Well, it's still awesome of course, but the slowdown is quite upsetting to the flow of the game. My crosses look slow as ****e and it's hard to get the timing right when you want to connect with them.
I was definitely finding it easier to score than in WE7i when playing through the middle though. The through pass works much better, especially if you have quick/skillful front players who can leave the last defender standing with an instant touch (like Raul, Torres & Reyes were doing in my 3-4-3 Spanish team)

Played some more last night and my impressions of the game have improved

I decided to get some cup action on the go with Spain. After a few games, i realised that i hadnt seen any slowdown for ages, and virtually no screen fragmentation (commentary on 1 star, wide angle viewpoint, Radar on - crowd was full cos you cant adjust it in cup modes). So the good news is thats it seems there are some stadiums which more or less eliminate the technical problems which were threatening to ruin the game for me. I still cant get over how much better it was last night compared to when i played some friendlies against the cpu on Tuesday evening.

After getting knocked out of the cup by Mexico on penalties (which i still hate the format of by the way - the ones in ISS on the N64 with the boxes as aiming devices were so much better) i had another pop at the cup with Italy. And my god are they a handy side. The midfield felt more solid and well equipped to counter attack than the Spaniards, and Vieri is a monster in the middle of the front three. He was holding everything up, playing the wider strikers into the game, and then darting into the box to get in the headers. (As an aside, i also started experimenting with the default camera for this tournament, and i have to say it made the game feel a lot quicker, enabling me to pull off more skills and better appreciate them at this closer viewing postition. Also, the slowdown was about 95% eliminated, and i saw very little screen meltdown)

Anyway, got all the way to the semi where i met Spain! Was a tight game, but i was just about dominating with Del Piero running the show, getting closer and closer to breaking the deadlock with every free kick. 85th minute and he steps up for another effort from the corner of the box, sets his sights, and bang, its curling into the top corner. Im almost up celebrating but just as it looks like the ball is crossing the line, the keeper manages to scamper across his line and claw the ball out one handed. I manage to recompose myself and play the ball around the edge of the box, being patient cos i know this could be the last chance of normal time. Totti starts to make a dart into the box and i feed the ball through to him with the outside of Del Pieros boot. He takes it in his stride, jinks past one defender with a two foot feint, then shifts right to bamboozle the next before smacking the ball right-footed high towards the goal, but with a thud and a shake of the post, it comes crashing back out again off the woodwork and we go into Extra time.

I press straight from the kick off and head towards goal, where Vieri is eventually cynically hacked down by a defender, casing him to fly through the air. The ref has to hold a couple of players back, whilst in the background Del Piero is placing the ball down again. Its straight down the middle, so i aim for the keepers left and bend the ball towards the goal. It hits the inside of the post and falls safely into the keepers arms. Gutted. But before i have a chance to get back, the goalie has rolled it down the line and Spain are on the attack. They work it qucikly to Raul on the left who has space to run into the gap and strike the ball low and hard towards goal. My keeper makes himself big and gets a leg to it, but it bobbles out to the oncoming Torres who volleys the rebound home. No time to respond to the silver goal and its game over.

Suffice to say, im staritng to fall in love with this game a bit

I had a great session last night, played the world cup with England, coop, whilst drinking "beer".... well after thrashing Japan and Hungary 3 - 0 we then lost to Germany 2 - 0 but it was one of those games where you felt the computer was stacking the deck against you, where no force in the world, not even Bananaman could stop it. After that, we played a tightish 2 -1 victory against the Italiens, we were all over them but the post kept interfering. Then came the ultimate match, Spain, we trashed unmercifully the Spanish 5 - 1 we were absolutly on fire, we both realised it was because we were thinking about the R2 button and positioning properly, some of the R2 shimmies to get through midfield were fantastic... Anyways after that confidence booster we brushed aside Brazil in the semi 2 - 0 then went on to beat Portugal 1 - 0 in the final.....bloody marvellous.
