Good thinking. I think one of Nintendo's tech demos has you playing Guitar with Pikachu. Someone could put together a fully fledged music package with you playing various instruments with the touch pad at the bottom (and for 112, a small volume control gauge ).

I think the DS will be an opportunity for developers refresh some of the more predictable franchises. In particular, I keep thinking of ways Nintendo could make a fresh Pokemon game on DS. I can't be arsed with Pokemon these days, as each new installment just don't seem different enough from the last to warrent the time investment. But I loved playing Pkm Blue when it was still a novel idea.

If they made a Pokemon DS, not only would it increase the chances of the NDS by a factor of several hundred, but it would also give them a chance to mix the formula up a bit.

How about using the bottom screen to display a nintendogs-style virtual pet element? This could be displayed at all times while you play through the RPG on the top screen. Instead of caught PKM being reduced to a name and icon, they're visible at all times on the bottom screen... sleeping, playing, or generally mucking around in your 'inventory space'. You could interact with them and give them items using the stylus, and check their status at a glance. And how well you treat them would effect how they perform for you in battles.

Something like that would help create some (much-needed) emotional attatchment between you and your PKM... which would then raise the emotional stakes in the battles.
We know that the virtual pet, when done right, is addictive enough to be a game on its own. Therefore:

Virtual pet + Huge, compulsive, collect-em-all RPG + Wi-fi battling = Crack on a chip.

That's my ramble. Any other idea?

Perfect idea Tigs - Any game could benefit from that. Raising your team on the touch screen to go to war on the top screen. Creates the emotional attachment.
