    Quick thrills

It's hit me that the only games I play regularly are Winning Eleven 6 and F-Zero GX on the Gamecube. WE6 is so accessible, deep and damn fun to play that it keeps me more than occupied. I'd say it's easily had more play than all my other Gamecube games combined. F-Zero GX is pretty similar too; it's accessible with great depth, and very addictive.

I've realised that I simply can't be bothered with long games. I've got half-finished save files of Super Mario Sunshine, Zelda:Wind Waker, Resident Evil, Metroid Prime and others that I can't be bothered to play any more. I tried playing Zelda today and I didnt know the controls. I tried playing Super Mario Sunshine but I got bored after 5 minutes. It's not been a conscious decision though, and I can appreciate why those games are popular, and can see why they deserve great reviews.

I decided to dig out my Dreamcast and I remembered why its such a great console. Games like Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Jet Set Radio, Virtua Tennis and Rez ooze style, and are immediately compelling and fun. Pretty much all my Dreamcast games offer arcade style thrills whereas many of my Gamecube games require hours of committment to get anywhere. I'm not saying that Sega make the better games or that the Gamecube is a bad machine, far from it, and I know there's a variety of different game types on each machine. After thinking about it I've decided my next purchase will probably be a PS2 with games like Ridge Racer V and Winning Eleven 8.

Just wondering if anyone's had a similar experience

I'm basically doing the same as you are. atm the only games I enjoy playing are:

    Psyvariar 2
    WE6: Final Evolution (GC)
    Virtua Tennis

If I try and play anything else, I get bored with it after 30 minutes or so I could play something like Psyvariar 2 all night though

Yeah i'm the same, whenever I try and force myself to play on any other games I have I end up just thinking "sod it" and just have a game on WE6 FE again.

Although this week I finally did manage to force myself to play Wind Waker again, but as I couldn't remember where the hell I was upto I just started it again. I'm really enjoying playing it in little chunks now though, just so I don't forget where I am and go back to the WE daily cycle.

I'm like this too. I struggle to play an individual game for longer than 30 minutes. I prefer games that can be played in short bursts.

At the moment, I'm playing Zelda 4 Swords, but despite really enjoying it, after I finish a level, I don't feel like playing the next level straightaway. Instead, I take a short break or play something else, and then I feel like going back to it. I've been doing this more and more often with games these days.

The only games that have driven me to sessions of longer than a couple of hours recently have been Psyvariar and WE.

Your reasoning is also the reason my Dreamcast gets such a lot of use. It's got the ultimate list of pick up and play games. Although when it comes to Psyvariar2 I tend to play it for at least 3 hours per session.

i can swing between both. sometimes ill just play vigilante missions in GTA3/VC for a few hours straight, other times ill want to play thru the levels in a game like thief3 or psi-ops. depends on the mood. when im tired and cant concentrate as well i tend to go for the quick fix options.
