    Do You Chip Or Import?

I'm curious. Having had it up to here with my flip-top PS2, and looking at my options, I realised I didn't know what the majority of the people on the forum used to play import games. Are you a chip person, or do you simply get the console in from abroad and use the step down?

(Yes, I do notice the irony in being about the only person here who rarely imports games).

With the exception of my chipped PAL xbox, all of my consoles are Japanese.

I've also gone for Japanese consoles - partly because I like having the alternative colours they come in.

i have a modded ps2, a modded xbox, a freeloader for GC, a DC-X for dreamcast and an action replay or whatever it is for saturn. australian game prices are insane, so even games that are coming out in australia i still buy from overseas cause i save at least AUS$20 on most titles, and that is on the price after you include shipping.

I have a chipped PS2 which is handy because you dont need to upgrade your TV to NTSC specs, but when i breaks i will get myself a new USA and JAP one. I also have an USA xbox (dam you KOTOR).

I personally think getting region specific consoles is better, one they stand up to the games better than chipped machines and last a lot longer and two you dont get temped to buy coppied games if you've got region specific.

All my console are imported, although they are all chipped or modified to play other regions (except for my XBox which is just US).

Ive never ever bought anything Nintendo from here(PAL) as i view Ninty Europe as dog****.Have a Jpn switched and a Q.
PS2 and Xbox are both chipped,as i simply dont have the room/sockets for another PS2 and X-Box for Live.
All the others are Jpn versions,as there is so much more choice from overseas.

                PAL XBox - modded
                PAL PS2 - modded
                Jap Cube - switch fitted
                PAL DC - DC-X disc
                PAL PS1 - modded
                PAL N64 - Passport III
Jap GBA SPs - just bought a new UK psu from HMV

I try not to buy PAL games ar all.

                Also, slightly OT, but:

Pioneer DVD player - multi - I buy very few R2 DVDs. Mostly R1 and R3.

I usually buy import consoles, although I ditched my US and UK Xbox's in favour of a modded one, and I have a PAL PS2 debug unit that will play all regions. Other than that I have a Japanese GC switch modded to play US games. I end up with import systems purely cause of the fact I'm impatient and can't wait for Euro launches.

I have a chipped Xbox. I am still currently happy with my flip-top PS2.

I buy what ever is best - US SNES (plays jp games with tabs removed) with a uk megadrive power supply fitted with a snes plug, chipped pal ps2, pal dc with dcx, switched saturn and a US GC with a uk psu.

I dont think there is any reason to only buy jp consoles thinking of all the step downs makes me wince and arguing that a jp ps2 stands up to playing jp games more than a pal ps2 with a chip is cobblers - the japanese do not use special disks or disk drives ffs! and this just boils down to another form of japan worship.

This is the first generation I've gotten myself all region playing consoles in one form or another; next generation I'm going 100% USA until the mods come out.
