Cheating Bastards :-(

This bugs me a lot.
If you have SCPT on xbox, look on the top 10 ranking. All of them are cheaters. Nothing is done about it though...

It may be the fault of the designers/publishers for not producing a bug-free title but at the end of the day the guilty party is the one committing the act of cheating. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I've never played a console online but how do people cheat? Are they cheating or just exploiting bugs? I'd have thought with a base system and standard game it would be easy to prevent cheating compared to pc games. Quake and CS used to have frequently updated serverside apps which checked the validity of each clients game files - if you had suspicious stuff in there, you were kicked. As for bugs - if a game is sold advertising online gaming as a feature, then they're damn well obliged to make sure they've left no flaws in there.

in RSC2 for example, cheaters use loop holes in the programming to use "unallowed cars" eg. Hill Climb cars instead of Rally Cars and like most rally games etc, spend a couple of seconds off the track and the AI replaces you, but on RSC2 you can cheat and within that "say" two seconds, get to a part of the track further along and the AI will replace you there in stead of where you left it.

Prehaps someone else can explain that better if it doesn't make sense

Are these laypersons, or mainly people with modded systems? Is there anything in place to stop people with modded consoles using Live? How's Xbox online compared with PC games? (I play a lot of CS and TFC and after a horrible few years of a cheating epidemic, stick to local UK servers which have regular sensible admins and people you get to know as regulars (and the cheating in general seems to have abated)) Guess I'll find out myself with Halo 2 and Conker Live & Reloaded come November... *gulp*

Well coming from a pc background that rally stuff sounds like an exploit rather than a cheat. I don't class sloppy, inexperienced multiplayer coding in the same league as some of the **** that has ruined pc multiplayer. Hopefully developers will get wise to these silly glitches and consoles will remain a closed shop as far as hacking is concerned.

Don't have the problem really, got a good group of people i regularly play with so the cheats stay on the outside.

yea its alright playing friends and stuff but playing for high scores is effectively ruined by it.
