DISCover , the next big thing for pc gaming?

reading this <a href ="http://www.redassedbaboon.com/index.cfm?show=gadget_detail&id=4">review</a> of the alienware digital home system

basically pc in a box with output for surround sound an tv etc, now this isnt new htpc (home theatre pcs) have been available in one form or another for a couple of years, what did perk my interest was the DISCover technology

what this does is, you put in a pc game and it automatically installs it for you, the system comes with a wireless keyboard and a "3d mouse?" whatever that is

anyhow what it is is a bunch of scripts that deal with instalation etc all you have to is put in the cd key.

I personally think this is where pc gaming may go in the future

Sounds like another lame attempt to help lazy/stupid people get into high-end PC gaming. I'm sure all those default configured, unoptimized installs of Doom 3 and Far Cry will run like a dream.

I suppose it'd be alright if every single gaming PC had this machine's exact specifications ... but that aint the world we live in.

I dunno, i think it has promise i mean the unconfigred part can be easily soved by either the user or a script

But you can't write a script for all games in the future!

It's a ****ing lame attempt at making PCs = consoles. It won't work, I mean, where's Phantom now? >_<

nah its not pcs= consoles, just makes pcs easier to run

and who knows, new game = new script available to download

Easy to run PC = Xbox.

Easy to run good PC = Xbox 2.

In my experience, the installation is the least of your worries when playing games on a PC
