There's one huge problem with "big blockbusting" titles in todays market....

They all are derivative of each other and lack any semblence of originality. Thats why alot of people find the Xbox line up so incredibly dull. The whole western vs East argument doesn't cut it with me either, Surely you enter into a market to offer options to consumers?

This generation should be innovating but it feels (at least to me) stagnant and generic.

Its a shame how originality or character is seen as "quirky".

But this season I shall be playing, Halo 2, Doom3, Pro Evo4, Outrun 2, Fable, DOA Online (perhaps)

and that brings another problem with the xbox, out of them there are only 2 games which u can't play elsewhere. but when I say quirky I don't mean completely off the wall, I jus mean something a bit different to generic racing game no 10 or genric fps no 6. Add sports to the list and u've summed up the entire xbox catalogue bar about 5 games.

Originality to these ppl is all new motion capturing and a special off the ball control system. Quirky is the only word they understand for different types of game ;p

Its unfair to critise MS regarding the matter. Imo they have tried to push the system but companies like Konami Capcom and Square are so in-bed with Sony that its virtually impossible to get them to produce games for the XB.
It isnt unfair the critisize MS at all, Sony were in a simliar position with the Playstation, but they offered free dev kits to software houses, and help on how to use them.

MS first mistake was the size of the console (i know old story but..) the Japanese seem to like smaller consoles. The console wasnt pushed, they didnt seem to try and get any developers on there side. If they had offered smaller dev houses help with creating games before launch maybe it would have done better.

And are Konami, Capcom and Square that in bed with Sony that they have all made games for the Gamecube, especially Capcom who have put extra effort in imo.

If MS had got the big guns to make more games at the launch, and helped the little guys then it could have been a winner.

but instead there happy to release games in japan that are in english. Would you be happy if games were released in French in the UK and they didnt put an English language in?

That's just speculation. Given Microsoft's developer relations, I'd speculate it is completely the opposite; development support from MS is second to none, far, FAR greater than somebody like Nintendo. Certainly Capcom seem to be enjoying developing for the Xbox and there have been various "smaller" titles on the system so you can't blame somebody like Square for going where the money is. MS are just stuck between a rock and a hard place...

As though unless a person agrees with your definition of something worthy, this makes the person some type of casual gamer.
That seems unfair really Smegaman, I didn't mean to lessen the importance of originality in gaming, there is an obvious place for quirky original titles, just as there is for the Blockbusting sequels

Remember young Baad bwoy Clubber lang was defeated when rocky regained the eye of the tiger through training with apollo creed his arch nemesis in rocky I, who was sadly killed in rocky III at the hands of evil clubber.

I don't know what will happen, but I'm excited!

Its always realy hard to voice an opinion about this without being some what biased with a point of view. On a whole i could not really care less who is doing better in the market, so long as the game remain of a decent quality and that originality is evident in games from time to time.

Why would you want to worry so much about how X company is doing. Sure it would directly affect the type of games coming out for the system involved but the majoruty of 'hardcore' gamers like ourselve have multiple formats. So in a sense we've already backed all the horses.

We will always win, so whats to think about?

glad to see you were awake! anyway the point is rocky came back on top after his demise.

btw didn't you think rocky 4 was interesting, they portrayed the russian fighter as being evil. overtones of the cold war made watching essentially what should just have been a movie about a boxer hard going

                          I pity da foo!

Rocky 3 had Rocky's trainer Mick who died of heart attack caused by Clubber Lang causing off ring scene.

Rocky 4 had Ivan Drago beating the **** out of Apollo Creed as he wasn't in his prime.

If Xbox is the daddy then I'm off to live with the quirky uncle GBA.

Xbox is a fine machine, but the games generally don't appeal to me. The only ones I have any interest in and have played lots are the Sega ones, GTA and PGR2, besides that there's very little that has "clicked" with me. Games like Halo and KOTOR are undoubtably good, but they don't excite me in honesty. I bought my brick when Orta was released and it's still the machines best game.

The thing that surprised me about Xbox was how it's still being sold by it's reps. Once again my workplace got another willy waving brochure, detailing greatly how Xbox was far more powerful, blah blah. I pointed out that the specs were irrelevant, I mean my most played system is my GBA SP and how does that compare, stat wise? They seem to still be focussing on making everything either a co-op, squad based shooter, a bloody realistic racing game or FPS. And all these games are life like realistic, which is all very nice, but frankly where are the silly little games that aren't life like?
I suppose it's the same as Nintendo always being criticised for kiddy games, just the polar opposite.

Also am I the only Xbrick owner in the world not pissing myself in anticipation for Halo 2? Frankly I think Outrun 2 is going to be my best Brick game out this year. I just find it baffling that this is the only game anyone is looking forward too, I just don't understand. Oh well.
