I normally go with Automatic until I get used to the game, then switch to manual in order to get good times. Until I started practising a lot on Sega Rally and Daytona I really struggled with manual configurations, but now I'm well used to it and don't really have a problem adapting to most games.

It's not really manual though is it, its auto manual or paddle shift or whatever the automotive terminology is.

No being an uber geek I've always wanted a game with a clutch, now that would be brilliant, but you'd need 3 decent analogue buttons at least to pull it off.

Were there any games made with a clutch because I want to play it. As a rule though I am an automatic man unless the game is so stupifyingly easy that you have to put it on manual to make it challenging.

Find yourself a large three screen F355 cabinet and play in "Real" mode - comes with clutch and the fantastic ability to stall the car. Feels great!

Manual. There are a lot of games that don't really facilitate rev control properly, using 'manual' gears as a mechanism for "going faster" rather than allowing some degree of control on the car but I still like the added feel.

There are a lot of games the benefit greatly from MT too, such as Daytona and Sega Rally.

It HAS to be manual! You cant throw the back end out properly in automatic - a car aint a car unless it drives sideways!

dont know of any console games, but aswell as F355, theres Ridge Racer and Hard/Race Driving which both have clutches. Not all Ridge Racer arcades have a clutch either

How do you powerslide the Hornet in Daytona in automatic, is it possible?

Yea, using the a combination of break/accel. with hard locks (mostly). It's not as precise, imho, but possible (and I would imagine just as good with practice).

The auto cars go slightly slower in Daytona though (IIRC) so who'd bother?

I remember playing Hard Drivin' with manual gears, that like totally ruled. F355 I was always to scared to sit down in..... but no real manual (stick shift) console games though, that's a shame.

TOCA 2 has a clutch option, anyone tried it?

Daytona, configure the buttons so they're 1-2-3-4 on each kinda goes halfway to doing that and I reckon its necessary for those 4-1-4 corners. Stop the up-up-down marlarky, NOW!

Daytona 2001 has the gears set to the 4 buttons as standard. Cannot remember what the Saturn versions set to as its been a while.

Pretty much summed up my view on the subject.

I may be wrong, but am sure a motorcycle racing gameon the PS2 had a clutch implemented?

Think Riding Spirits 1 did, wasn't the Moto GP series so it must have been RS1 sure you could switch it on or off though, which was handy.
