    PSX Emulation

I've managed to get me collection of PS1 games running PC, was pretty dubious at first but yeah it seems to run really well. Can adjust the frame rate from 1-200fps, load of graphic filters etc, nice.

What i especially like is that fact that you can use the analog sticks for non-analog games - many platformers and esp racing games, Ridge Racer etc, its great!

Sure, i can play them all on PS2 but when your at the PC, you got MAME going, Megadrive etc, it's just convenient to have it all running via one system

I know this probably shouldn't be discussed here but what emu are you using? the last one I tried was pretty useless.

I've certainly yet to see an emulator correctly run either PAL release of Wip3out (original or SE) for more than about the first 5 seconds of a race, so its not perfect, no. Its a pity, as with a bit of AA, a smattering of trilinear filtering and a dose of 1024x768 resolution, Wip3out on my PC makes Fusion on the PS2 look even more embarrassing than it normally is.

PSX emulation was never that great, and it still hasnt improved. Still can't play much of Xenogears through it

It's all about plugins and I've had Xenogears running fine through ePSXe or whatever it is called. Takes some tweaking, yea, but it is possible. Wip3out never runs properly though, there must be some funky hacks going on with that... shame really

I don't see talking about emulation as a bad thing either, just any talk about "Yarr!" (random pirate image, ahoy!) downloads and such.

I don't see why running PS1 games on a PC should be such a big deal. I own several PS1's and all of the games I want to play are originals that I own. I just think it'd be less hassel playing them on the PC.

I use ePSXe (www.epsxe.com) with the following plugins:

              Video: PEOpS Soft Driver 1.15
Audio: PEOpS DSound Audio Driver 1.7
              CD: Xeven's Cdr Driver 0.93

This works fine for Metal Gear Solid (hardly played though), Skullmonkeys, Klaymen Klaymen, Rayman and MegaMan 8 (that's all the PSX stuff I have).

You can use the sticks, but there's no pressure sensitivity. i.e. it is digital, and not analog.

What do you mean dude? The PSOne controllers aren't pressure sensitive and the analogue works fine, once configured.

And WipEout 3 at 1024x768? Mmmm.

Espxe is rad n all, especially for higher resolutions etc but i've never been keen on it, i prefer the PSX native graphic style.

For that VGI is the greatest, no messing with plugins etc just put in & go, especially if your PC is ass like mine

It all depends on what you're after, really. If I want to play on as accurate an imitation of the original machine as possible, then I'll just use my PS2 (and not have to unlock everything from scratch again). ePSXe is all about making things look better than they've been designed to, really.
