    Gamestation staff

Phoned up Gamestation today, now i know for a fact that they have the latest games in stock the day before at the latest, sometimes they have them 2,3 even 4 days before so...........

putting on my best behaviour, i asked the staff member to sell my Burnout 3 a bit early - now i know the ex-manager and used to be able to get my **** early via him (on the hush hush) and i know that they still break street dates for their 'mates' ..... sorry mate, can't break street date at all on this one bladdy bladdy unless someone else breaks it first .... anyways long story short, managed to blag a copy from my local indie, piece of piss stylee ......

So imagine my surprise when i log online and the first room i see on the server is Gamestation Staff Only ....... so they can't break street date can they not

I used to quite like Gamestation but its turned into just another Game

John - Take it from someone who works for Gamestation. The policy is that staff members can buy the game as soon as it is delivered to the store. The street date exists to discourage unfair competition and as a staff member would never shop anywhere else (because of staff discount) it is fine for Gamestation and Game (I would assume) to sell to their staff.

Also you should know that there is a shortage of PS2 copies of Burnout 3 right now. Staff therefore are only allowed to buy the XBOX version, even AFTER street date.

I shouldn't really be telling you a lot of this but I'm hoping that information will lower the mistrust.

Street dates are a big issue amongst retailers if you believe MCV - not an edition goes by without someone (ELSPA, GAME, various indies or super indies ) banging on about it.

The managementtm take it very seriously. On Wednesday my area manager was on the phone every hour making sure that no-one was selling Burnout 3 early. They **** their pants over missing out on a single sale, but I guess that's how they get so big.

the point i was making was ..... Gamestation (plus Game for that matter) staff will break the street date to friends etc, and they will break the street date if a rival store has broken it before them ...... buy a game with no online component and they seem to break the street date with no qualms, but once its online play its 'sorry mate can't do it...', and yet they are hosting games of said game

Bloody hell, put the rattle back in the pram. OMG I need to wait another 12 hours to play a game. One that Im sure you already have knowing ur "contacts" - shame its a no no to online tho.

What is the crime? Gamestation staff having a small perk for putting up with mindless punters day in/day out. I see no wrong if GS staff get the game early.

The sooner the distributors put in the contracts that the music/dvd suppliers demand the better. The breaking of dates to the general public is wrong, and shows the immaturity of Gamestation, and Game management.

Im glad the date for BO3 wasn't broken.

I have found gamestation staff to be on the whole fairly nice people, however there is always the odd burk luking ready to snap at you for asking a question, or the ones who never ever check that the cd's arn't scratched when they sell them to you so you have to take it back.

                      But complaining for this?

Gamestation station can buy whenever they want, just because they don't want to sell to anyone else, doesn't mean they have to.

How do you know it was those people from that individual store? I'm betting you it's not.

                      Either way, grow up.

The reason for no PS2 version, is that the lorry broke down between Holland and France (so Holland don't have any yet).

replicant - hardly 12 hours - more like 20 mins (other stores had broken the street date, as you might have read if you actually read my post). Gamestation and Game seem to have an unwritten rule that if somewhere else in the same area breaks the street date then they can also do the same, plus i know that Gamestation had sold the game earlier to someone ......

Heh, in Holland, it's been delayed by a week by some places (Napoleon mentioned it on rllmuk).

John - they can sell it if someone else breaks the release date, because the original place breaking it would be the ones getting the (non-existent) shafting.

Double-standards? They don't even have to sell anything to you, or let you into their store.
