It's only this month where the covers have been so similar, isn't it? I whole magazine felt very similar this month actually, which is a shame as one magazine had to come out before the other. You were both obviously sent to the same press events

Nice to see a KoF review though.

I have a sub for Edge, have done for years and years and years, just easier. I buy Games TM as well and have been toying with the idea of getting a sub.

Both good reads in their own right...

I started reading Edge at issue No 2, by issue 4 I had subscribed (and back ordered No 1) and have been a subscriber ever since.

I enjoy each issue though I don't always read cover to cover. What I absolutely love though, is have years and years (Christ, how many is years has Edge been out?!?) of gaming history on my shelves. I love picking up random issues and looking at the games of the day.

Can't see me ever cancelling my subscription

Never read a copy of GamesTM. No real reason but I guess I just don't impulse buy magazines from shops anymore. Edge plus the Web give me all (more than) the coverage I need.

I have a Sub for EDGE. GamesTM looks too... whats the word? Mainstream.

Although saying that, the copies I have acutally bought of GTM (1 or 2) were quite decent reads.

Out of the two i prefered GamesTM. Less "drivel" shall we say (oh and the blown up (usually) retro screenshots are nice)

I don't subscribe to either, but have bought both of them every month over the last couple of years. I very rarely read either from cover-to-cover since there is a lot of stuff that simply doesn't interest me in there, but enough for a bit of light bedtime reading. If I had to pick one though it would most definitely be GamesTM.

I've subscribed to Edge since reading issue 1, but may well cancel soon. The magazine hasn't been any good for years now, but over the past 6 months has got even worse. Obnoxious, offensive, ridiculously opinioned, and obviously seeking controversy wherever possible. Their laughable sales figures reflect this.

Reading their Doom 3 rant pretty much sealed the deal for me. The mag is a waste of paper. Reading it just makes me want to kill someone...

Games TM I pick up from time to time. It's a little better, a little less arrogant, but also rather amateurish. Looks like it's aimed at 12 year olds. Their latest review scores will make me think twice about picking it up again. They just smack of Edge style controversy, which is precicely what I want to get away from.

I subscribe to GamesTM not because its a next-gen multiformat version of "Super Play", which is what Id actually REALLY like to buy, but because by default its the best magazine out there. Default simply because its not EDGE, and as long its doesnt become an EDGE wannabe Ill be satisfied. (if it happens to become a next gen multiformat version of super play, well then Ill be over the moon)

I used to subscribe to EDGE and it was such a depressing read I nearly gave up on gaming to move to the mountains, shave my head and become a saffron robed monk.

In fact, EDGE made me hate gaming at times, wether it was those useless industry ads in the back that require at least 5 years experience and 3 triple AAA titltes under your belt before the industry will even look at you, or the misguided and bluntly ignorant Redeye columns, everything was tinged with a depressing sense of melancholy and woe. All of it was terribly depressing, it really does make you want to kill someone!

Suffice to say, most people here know how much I despise EDGE and the sickening anti-gamer bile they allow to be printed on their pages.
I only tell you all this specifically because you asked about it, and so therefor regard this topic as the place to highlight certain good and bad points.
As of today Ive burned the last issues I had left, having scanned into GIF format the 2 very Redeye articles that caused to loathe them so much:
                            Issue 121 March 2003
                            Issue 124 June 2003

I like to keep these files close to hand in case I should need an anger fulled adrenaline hike.

Also, the GamesTM writing staff are very human, likable people, most of them post on here and are very approachable when talking about the magazine. They also have an excellent retro section, despite featuring far too many ZX spectrum games and not enough Famicom games.

Id stay away from EDGE if I was you, you might never be able to play a game whilst smiling again.

                            EDIT:
i prefer the edge covers and layout.
gamestm is too packed together with too many screenshots. makes me feel dizzy.
What, you mean you like the large ammounts of blank wasted space, where they try and pretend to be avante guarde and austentacious? I guess its all down to opinion, I think GamesTM at times isnt jam packed enough.
If you want genuine jam-packing of screenshots, text and tid bits, check out Famitsu, I don't think theres an empty blank spot anywhere in it. Wonderful.

That's true, but considering we're apparently aimed at 12 year-olds, it obviously makes perfect sense
