    Learning the hard way

    Right then,

I'm 70 odd percent through Prince of Persia (the observatory) and have had to restart the game. I only have the smallest amount of energy left and there's no way for me to replenish it. I've got to a part where it's impossible not to drop to the ground without taking the smallest amount of damage and I just die everytime.

Fortunately, I'm really enjoying it, so don't mind having to restart. Anybody else ever had a similar situation?

A friend of mine restarted this game about 5 times, getting to 70% plus each time.

He first got it on the PC and lost the save twice due to formatting. He then got it on the Xbox. I cant remember all the reasons but I think he chipped his Box, then it stopped working, then he got a new one.

He finished it about two months ago. So don?t feel bad Strider.

It's just annoying, I've had to restart Project zero god knows how many times because I run out of film/energy and don't even get me started on Resident Evil Zero.

I'll stick with Pac-Man in the future

Going on what was said in a similar thread a couple of months back, nobody's finished Project Zero.

you could say i had a similar situation, strider: exactly the same thing happened to me on PoP (if you're talking about the bit where you have to swing on bars across the room, and can't help taking a bit of damage when you land. anyway) - i was being kinda unusually over-cautious and keeping more than one save on the go, for some reason, so i was okay, but i don't think i would've minded too much if i'd had to restart either - annoying bit of a design oversight, though.

i did manage to overwrite a 50+hour disgaea save with my girlfriend's 10-hour one, though, entirely though my own dumbassery. oops. i'll play through the story again at some point (i've still not seen the best ending), but the pain of losing all my hard-won levelling's a bit fresh in my mind right now... *sniff*

Yup, that's exactly where I got stuck. Still, I'm already making speedy progress and am nearly there again. I'll be a lot careful next time.

Please do stab me if I'm stating the assumed, but is it one of those falls that can be broken with a touch of a certain button (can't remember which, exactly; the jump/roll button maybe)? Slight-damage falls can be countered this way, as far as I remember.

Hmm, I'm not sure, I never read instructions, so who knows...

Yup, when you're about to land, press the roll button, and you wont get damaged.

Except in this ONE case, you can't do the roll I believe. I noticed this when playing through and could not roll out of it at all...

Just another case of bad level design in PoP... Was this game overrated ! Everybody marvelling over the time rewind feature, which was in fact quite useful because most of the time you could not see a damn thing and had to guess where the designer intended you to jump.

As far as saves are designed, why didn't they take the Metroid/Castlevania way, where you're actually safe, once you've reached a save point ? And most Metroids are thougher than PoP, anyway...

I guess Biohazard must be a great contender for lost saves. And I hate those rubbers ? Come on Capcom, let me save...

Do you know that PC gamer actually can't understand when you can't save at anytime ? I sometimes agree with them. Everygame should have a quick save feature, but not as a design flaw (like in PC FPSes where you have to hit the quick load every ten second)... more like the emergency exit which freezes the game and is erased after being loaded. Like in Aria of Sorrow or FFTA.

I nearly came a cropper with a POP problem where the princess kept falling into a pit of spikes everytime I loaded the game. You just need to maintain two (or more) save games at a time and you should be able to get through no problem.

I would really recommend perservering with the game as you are heading towards some of the best levels at 70% onwards imo.

Any game that forces you to restart in this day and age is a game that's poorly designed.

I've never understood why people are happy to overlook this in games like Resi.

As for PoP, I still have a save file from playing it at the meet last year. However, what I've read in this thread has put me off buying the game after all. I'm not having that. ft:

Don't, it may have some flaws but it is a truly great piece of software imo and you'd be missing out. I had a mare at one point (see pop first play) 'cos of a dodgy save/cutscene but happily went back through, I'm not saying that is good but was worth it to play to the end. You should be able to get it cheap as well seeing as the second is out shortly.
