    Question

Why is it if somebody likes Nintendo made games they are branded a fanboy, yet if somebody likes just Xbox, PS2, PC games then nothing?

Their are more PS2 fanboys (if thats the right word) and they tend to be games shop employees. The lies i have heard some of them tell potental customers like Sony have bought the rights to Mario and PS2 is the only online console gets on my nerves.

Anyway back to me question why is it that you cant say anything pro Nintendo without being labeled a fanboy?

PS before anybody gets in first i am not a fanboy i own all three major consoles and like them equal.

Theres nothing wrong liking the PS2, the Gamecube or XBOX.

There is something wrong with people who follow the pack blindly and only are interested in games on one host platform.

This year alone again proves that if anyone is seriously into their gaming as a hobby then they need to own all 3, plus a pc.

The mole, what formats do you own? And what do you like about them? Maybe you can show the forum the way forward and not be biased.

The minute this thread turns out to be flame or console x ()WNZ console y it is closed people.

I think it's possible to be serious about gaming without owning all three consoles. Plus a PC. I remember when I was younger (and single platform bound) I was just about the most serious gamer you could ever meet. To the point where my parents were trying to blame my crap eyesight on staring at a screen for so long.

(They were wrong in the end, incidently. I have one perfect eye, and one short sighted, which messes things up).

It's very easy to state that all people should own all consoles (and a PC) or risk being laughed at by all the REAL enthusiasts, but the simple fact is that not everybody has the financial wherewithall to purchase all the consoles on the market.

This extends to kids who don't have jobs, and it's those same kids who feel insecure about their purchases, and have to justify their purchases to themselves. It's human nature. Especially when you haven't got the life experience to cope with the worry that you might have made the wrong decision.

      It's kids.

Don't knock them for it. They're learning.

      **shrugs**

I really ought to think about getting PC, really. Since I don't own one, which means I'm not serious about games. After all, I'd hate to be judged by the Hardcore and found lacking...

Incidently, if any 14 year olds post to tell me about how they managed to get a job, and get all three consoles (etc.) then you need to accept that you're the exception, not the rule.

Well i currently have an Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube and i guess DC and GBA also.

I got the PS2 when the price droped to an RRP of ?200
I got the Xbox in the Jan sales after i found Boots were selling the consoles for ?100 could not refuse that.
I got the DC and Gamecubes on launch day The Dreamcast was my first Sega console and i fine console it is too, it contains hidden gems like Powerstone, 4 Wheel Thunder, and Samba De Amigo. The Gamecube was a must buy for me when i saw how commited Nintendo seamed to be this time round with Europe (i was wrong but Datel came to my rescue)

I dont know why but i have always liked Nintendo controlers they suit me well having bigish hands.

While i think Microsoft will not be able to crack Japan i think that the console wars will get interesting watching them try also with the amounts of money they have put into the Xbox i doubt anybody is willing to just overnight give up on it.

As i said above Nintendo have the controler thing going on as well as making some mighty fine games, they know which developers to inverst in and i feel that the likes of HAL, Silicon Knights, and Zoonami could be the way forward for them.

I dont want to start a flame war here but feel that Sony have been very very lucky with reguards to the Playstation and Playstation 2. Nobody knows for sure what went on between them and Nintendo but if it didnt happen then we may have yet to see some fantastic games like Sly Racoon and Jak and Daxter. They found a gap in the market and by God did they push it.

Anyway back to the point i was trying to make, was that if you are seamed to like Nintendo then you are a fanboy, i have reciently left a forum after i said Nintendo made the best games was then branded a fanboy and their after all my comments were labeled as so.

Ah... you see your fatal mistake was that you didn't tack IMO (or even say 'In my opinion') on the end of your statement. Many people both on the Net and in the Real World are unable to identify an opinion unless it's well flagged up...

I don't think that there is anything wrong in that at all. Provided people don't continually slag the other consoles out of jealously, I see no reason why someone might only like say the Gamecube because of the type of games available on it.

I can easily see why someone might only want one console, even though I prefer to have all of them.

Oh, man, that was a good one. After the day I've had, I needed that. Obviously you either have blinders on, only able to see the scorn directed at one group, or you haven't hung out on gaming message boards enough. Trust me, fans of ANY one system get the "fanboy" brand burned on them.

                Nintendoites aren't the only ones.

                  LMAO

it was only a matter of time before the paranoia came out

I find fanboyism very irritating, but if people want to love one console in a subjective fashion, fine, let them. And its DEFINITELY not only kids that are fanboys. Ive pretty much owned every console, every generation, since the NES. And ive tried to stay objective all that time. Thats the only way to be IMO. Why limit your enjoyment by being blinkered?

Agreed Kemps. Fanboyism is prob the biggest pet hate of mine on the internet. It is so bloody annoying.

Fanboyism comes in two fold. No.1 Being unable to accept a game could be good because its on an alternative console. No.2 Claiming that games x,y & z are great examples of quality gameplay due to the host platform when they obviously aren't. Its a ridiculous concept. Not as ridiculous as "hardcore" gamers who are fanboys purely based on owning PAL consoles.

Kemps is also correct as fanboyism is not purely down to the kids on the internet. I wish it was as it would be easier to ignore. Unfortunately grown adults are just as guilty. Sometimes it can be used for a quick laugh etc, but ultimately it does more harm that good.

I still think that multiformat is the ideal choice if someone is into their games. That way the choice is available, and the best examples of each genre can be played despite the host platform. Doesn't stop people having their favourite console, nothing wrong with that, but it does make them more balanced a gamer.

question id like to ask is

why does anyone give a rat's ass enough to post who gives a rat's ass?

So basically next time don't post unless you have something constructive to say. Ok Andy_T?

I bought a GC because it would host the sort of games I would most want to play and buy. It doesn't mean however that I haven't or won't play games on the other formats though. Halo is good enough, likewise DMC, Einhander, Rez, Samba de Amigo etc... but generally I've always stuck to just one of the current generation formats to buy. My time isn't what it used to be and I still get more games than I think I need
