    PS3 wait and see?

    Hi,
Given Sony's list of recent mistakes, how many people here, are going to to rush out and buy a PS3 on its first day of release?

Don't get me wrong, I like the PS2, most of my games are PS2. However, until recently the PS2 has been too big, way too noisy and has never played DVD's the way they should be played, in RGB.

So when the PS3 comes out, I'm going to wait a while.

I never buy consoles on release no matter who makes them - overpriced and not enough games to go at. Inevitably, I'll still get one though.

I wouldn't buy a ps3 on release just because they are most likely going to explode within 12 months ala ps2

I waited one year for a decent PS2 game. ONE YEAR! And that was the US release.

There is no way on Gods earth I would ever buy on release again, I'll wait for the reviews to roll in first.

EDIT: Having thought about it some more I suppose I'll be buying one anyway so...

ANOTHER EDIT: It has Blu-Ray out the box, sod it I'm buying on release.

Ill buy it at release if theres a game i want, if it launched and there was a must have game like VF5/latest Cave shmup i would pay the import premium.

I brought a PS2 for VF4, didnt bother me what else was released, there just a bonus

The Size, and noise doesnt bother me, i cannot hear it over the speakers normally.

As for the RGB, aslong as the games display in RGB/component i couldnt care less about the DVD playback, although i understand that those peeps that wanted to use it as a dvd player were disappointed.

I payed ?400 for a JPN DC and PenPen/VF3/July and ?450 for a JPN Saturn and VF/Daytona USA, if theres no games that i really want i can wait a year or so without getting a console.

I'll buy it if and when a decent RPG is released. If Square Enix develops for the PS3 then I'm sold but not until an improved version of the console hits the market (inevitable for Sony). I still have a JPN 10000 series, modded, sitting around collecting dust because the lens died. On top of that I don't have the drivers for DVD movies lol My strictly-not-modded US PS2 was a much better investment.

As has been said before in other threads i'm sure, theres nothing quite like getting a brandnew console as soon as it comes out in Japan. The thrill of looking over and powering up your new toy for the first time is indescribable. Dunno why but some of that thrill seems to be missing for me at least if its not bought almost straightaway. Maybe i'm just sad and materialistic?

So for that reason, yes i expect to be getting a PS3 at launch. Every console has at least one good game that makes it worth owning eventually and i've got no doubt that the PS3 will have more than most.

The last console i brought on release was teh GC.. went through th erelease titles very quickly and got bored ... waited till fzero,pn03,and Vjoe till i got back in to it.. and now its covered in dust again....Think ill wait to see what the release line up is first .. and then decide...

then again.. i have a psp on pre order..

Possibly on release - i assume Sony will have a better lineup of new releases. As Yoshimoto says; there's something about getting a console on release day. I've been happy with my release-day PS2, still going fine after what 4 years?, and was happy with the games i got initially. There were a few PS1 games i still was playing, so the backwards compatibility was useful. So assuming similar things should be fine for the PS3 as well. The main thing is to make sure there is a steady stream of games after the initial batch. Didnt all 3 consoles have a downtime like this?

I think the PS2 was pretty much the only console that i didn't bother getting on release. Apart from very playable Fantavision there wasn't anything at launch worth getting, and anything that was worth playing was already available and bettered on the 'ol DC. It wasn't 'till GT3 came out i eventually flashed tha cash.
I do look back sometimes and think of the money i could've saved if only i'd waited a few months.
I've already primed the mrs reguarding the DS, which oddly she seemed pretty cool about. She doesn't mind me buying Handhelds but another box under the telly and she'd go wild.
So to get back to the topic, i think i'll wait a bit (dunno how long a bit is tho)
Anyway Xbox2 will be out by then

Well seeing as we know precisely shaft all about the (final) hardware or software as yet I'll wait to make that decision...

Ignore me, I'm just in a bad mood today, bloody rmail followed by stupid publishers...grr.

I took a trip to Japan, WE6FE with the league patch to finally get me to buy a PS2.., If PS3 has a Winning Eleven in a decent state, I'll be sending Sony my money.

I don't buy on launch either. They usually make hardware revisions to later models and add more features. Also, they're cheaper. I usually wait for mods to develop first.

But Sony will probably make a sexier PSthree a few years down the road, so I might just wait for that instead.

Depends on the lineup really, if it's like the PS2 launch I'll wait for the price cuts and mod chips to happen.
If it's reasonably priced and has a couple of must have games then I'll get a JP one on launch day and then a US one so I can get my RPG's in English.
