Don't know about driving games so much, but I find that some other real life skills transfer nicely to videogames.

I'm excellent at Hitman, for the record.

Every now and again when out driving I see a trailer and think burnout so I probably should not be allowed to play racing games

I'd be great at driving if cars handled like the ones in Ridge Racers.

I think driving has helped me in certain driving games... definitely.

They're different proficiencies with similar themes really. I've done a lot of karting and rally driving when I was growing up and you learn how to apex corners correctly, braking and cornering etc... and with rallying you apply different surface reactions and sliding techniques.

I think all of those have made me better at some racing games whether they be Forza, GT, PGR, Colin McRae etc... especially when you add in a steering wheel controller, force feedback etc... it blurs the lines ever so slightly but yes you take what you can from reality and transfer it into the game knowing full well it's not exactly the same thing. But am I better? Yes definitely.

I don't think it helps, but I do think driving games help you in real life in certain things.

I learnt how to slide a car through playing games.
