Dixons XL in Brum selling mame-a-like arcade machine!

I've just had to pop into Dixons XL in the Bullring to get some cdr-s for work and what do I see when I walk in...

A gifts4all, 118 arcade games in 1 arcade machine for the princely sum of ?1,750

    WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't have that much chance to check it out as there were a couple of people doing the long jump on Hyper Sports

I've just found this link from the Dixons website showing the machine in question:

This website is for sale! gifts4all.com is your first and best source for all of the information you’re looking for. From general topics to more of what you would expect to find here, gifts4all.com has it all. We hope you find what you are searching for!

Has anyone had a better look at one of these machines yet?

My god that looks ****. It's overpriced and almost certainly illegal or in the grey area of emulation and roms.

Someone is making a fortune on these.

that looks terrible :S 14" monitor? ur better off spending a whopping ?150 or so on a proper jamma cabinet, an buyin all the games you want seperately. or rigging it to play all the MAME games by shoving even a top of the range PC in it and ur still no where near their asking price.

Yeah, I bet they are unlicensed roms.

        I should sue.

That's crazy! I'd love something like that though... oh for the time/space/effort/not-having-kids/partner about

          *sigh*

Where'd you get your cab, Trevor??

same guy this thread is talking about. Mines a Chinese cab, which is cool for me as I've not got loads of cash swilling around. It has slight cosmetic damage, paid ?250 for it. I then forked out about ?25 on new buttons and sticks (Sanwa), which I've yet to put in. Still the Chinese sticks aren't aweful, just average.

If you don't want to go for a full mame project, you can get a board for about ?300 that is preloaded with loads of the more popular games from the 90s. Just plugs straight in to the JAMMA connector. Highly ILLEGAL, which is why I decided not to go down this route. Probably the same thing this pos in Dixons has.

start at the www.mameworld.com forums to find a much cheaper and better arcade mame cab.

"add that extra element of excitement it comes with excellent sound affects and makes playing more thrilling and stimulating"
                No way. It's got sound...

whats the point of building a cab when your going to just put mame in it. Defeats the point.

Is it just one of those extremely dodgy 150 games in one pads sold in stands in shopping centres but put into a big cabinet?
Going OT but im surprised nintendo have only just got round to sueing the makers of those those 150 game pad things. The pads are carbon copys of the n64 pad and i saw super mario brothers being played on one. Not even a cheeky copy with a slight rename but a blatant replica.

Saw it today. It does look a bit spiffy in real life, but that price is way too much for it. Good to see the chavs know their games, crowding round it like spanners.

This glorious machine features a professionally crafted pub quality retro and sassy cabinet design
Fag burns! Pint glass stains! A coin slot jammed with foreign money!

                        Also:

To add that extra element of excitement it comes with excellent sound affects
                        but no dictionary.

Couldn't agree more. For me at least its all about the original PCBs and carts.

                          affects/effects muppets.

ROFL! It's not even using a PC, it seems to be using a Famicom / 118 game cartridge combo or something, you can tell this from the picture of Pacman they are using. Someones making a healthy profit on these...

Yeah mameworld has all that pc2jamma/dc2jamma/saturn2jamma stuff so why not a famicom2jamma?

as for why you'd want a mame cab, haven't you ever seen one of them? with the right graphics card it's just like playing on an arcade machine anyway - 15khz, etc.

i was planning on building a supergun for that genuine arcade feel, but i couldn't be arsed swapping pcb's around as they've been designed to be in place for a while at least...

having said that, i wouldn't mind building a supergun around an sf2 turbo pcb...
