    PS2 Threshold

Everyone remembers the time when the PS2 was still getting slated for having a distinct lack of quality titles on offer. At present though things are radically different and every week there is a new PS2 title that I add to my little list.

Anyway I was just wondering in your own opinion when did the selection of titles for the PS2 hit firstly the threshold for serious gamers (if there was one) and secondly for the casual gamer.

It just seems to me now that there are literally handfuls of new PS2 titles announced every day. Has the PS2 reached critical mass? This could however turn out as the best year yet in terms of output of quality software for a SONY machine.

This is right about the saturation point in the PS2's lifecycle and sales start to drop off from here on in.

Indeed Sony project a large drop off in PS2 sales in the coming quarters as the market saturates. As per usual we'll see many vendors ship some of their best stuff in late 2004 early 2005 and then like a star that has gone super nova, the entire thing should begin a rapid collapse.

At least that's how it used to work, these days however...recession.

There's a whole lot of hurt inbound, and it's going to kill some devco's stone dead. That won't help the PS2's lifecycle.

There are a ton of good 2nd hand games around for the PS2 which is hurting sales a bit but I don't think things are going to get worse anytime soon. The next-gen consoles won't be getting into their stride until 2006/7 and the backwards compatability will help ease the transition considerably.

I don't think their sales will ever stop, because right before they slow down they'll announce a price cut.
