I think the game should be played with the pad, as the developer intended.
Trying to gain an advantage by using the keyboard and mouse is low, imo. What is so good about the world of online console gaming is that it presents a level playing field where everyone has the same specced system, with the same limitations... Allowing peripherals like this to be used online corrupts what is currently a fair and balanced online environment.
Bad form.
Like someone else said, what about playing someone at a Street Fighter game online who has a specific joystick? What about someone who invests in a Steering Wheel to play OutRun over the joypad....should they not be allowed?
To be honest, I'm not buying this to be Uber, I'm buying it because I prefer and keyboard and mouse...simple.Last edited by SUMIRE; 08-11-2004, 15:59.

Similarly, using a wheel with Outrun 2 is acceptable because its reflective of the arcade background.
But it's not the same to say the because Halo (and Halo 2) is an FPS that using a keyboard/mouse combo is ok since all FPSs on the PC are played this way. The original platform for Halo (and Halo 2) is the xbox, and it was designed with the pad in mind - and should be played as such.

Originally posted by Charlie FootstoolIt really depends on the game. For something like Street Fighter, the game has arcade heratige so it's acceptable that someone would want to use the arcade joystick. It's frustrating for people like me who use the regular pad, and who have used pads for Street Fighter for years, matching up with a stick pro on SF3:TS on live and getting pasted, clearly you can perform the moves with more accuracy with the arcade stick - but I can understand them wanting to play that game with it.

HALO is a FPS title, and FPS titles have a heritage? of being best played with a Keyboard and mouse in my opinion....much like your argument for the joystick and fighter games.
I agree with your point about getting pasted when using a pad against a Joystick in fighter games...hence the reason why I am purchasing a joystick. I like to use the right tool(s) for the job you might say.Last edited by SUMIRE; 09-11-2004, 11:39.

All USB devices (and xbox's controllers are only very very slightly different to USB) report a unique identifier to the USB controller when they are connected, all bungie need do to prevent the use of these devices is poll the USB controller for its ID (or in a more extreme move, the ID of any controllers not already "whitelisted") and then disable live play while its connected.

I agree. If you are not used to a pad and you play on sensitivity 3 you will not do very well. However, after practice and rampting the sensitivity to 10 the s-pad is very well suited to FPS. Have a look at some Halo 1 tournie vids for evidence of how good the best players are at aiming with a pad.
