Portable DVD players with 7" screen are now under ?200 in many places. I wouldn't need to buy a hell of a lot of films on UMD that I already own the DVDs of in order to make it more practical to just buy one of these things. Sure, they aren't quite as small as the PSP, but at least that means the screen is going to be viewable.

I would never watch a film on one of these, you can buy a portable dvd player for ?100 now and that has never tempted me either.

The only time I ever even play games on a portable is if I am away, and then never when traveling because I feel like an idiot sitting on a train/plane playing.
If I lived in Japan where technology is more accepted as an entertainment for everyone rather than just a toy then maybe I would use portables more.

I have stopped buying loads of DVD's now it is coming to the end of its life, or is going to be superseded by hi-def, so there is no way I am going to start buying a format that is a step backward.

This is utterly pointless like with MP3 there are better ones on the market already. And Who in their right mind is going to buy films on UMD when you can get them on DVD with more extras and will probably be cheaper

Well Advent Children for starters. Exclusive on UMD for a few months isn't it?

Only on Memory Stick. I've ordered a JPN PSP, and no way am I importing tons of ultra expensive JPN UMDs of films I already own on DVD. I'm just going to stick a couple of episodes of The Simpsons/Family Guy/Scrubs or whatever for the train.
