    I jumped over the flag.

Ok, so yesterday i took a visit to Akihabara with my gf ( not the best place for a date but..) anyway we went to this one, really Otaku shop. There were test pods of almost all machines there. Virtual Boy, Famicom, Neo Geo,Saturn even Jaguar.
Anyway this one guy is on Super Mario Bros for the super famicom and is doing this 1up cheat were you have to kick the shell against one of the platforms before you attempt to jump the flag.
There was no emotion this is guy is just constantly doing the '1up' trick and me and my gf watch in disbelief , chuckling at the super otaku and so check the store and leave.
Anyway 10 minutes later i decide to come back to purchase Marvel Vs capcom for the DC and an N64.
Yes the guy is still doing the trick, anyway i have a go of the 'NES' they also have there, and well (i think it was the 3rd or 4th level) i went to finish the level, and i actually jumped over the flag??? Now i didn't know what to do so I just kept running. But there is nothing just an endless castle in the background. The time runs out and i die.
Then the guy next to me asks how i did it, anyway i tell him "himitsu" (secret) and leave. Anyway his face was a picture.

Have any of you managed to do this, or found a glitch in a game that looks like a trick but is actually a fluke, and actually causes you to die?

There is one level I'm sure that allows you to jump over the flag. I'm sure I've done it myself.

Yeah you can jump over the flag. On a few levels as space said, you can jump over it.

Thats not a surprise for me, I done that, what? A week after getting a NES?

It was cool, but nothing special.

Pretty sure I've seen it done ( been an age since I touched SMB )

Didn't know you could keep running though, usually the player would go back for the flag

Yes. Donkey Kong Country on the SNES. One of the early Ice Cavern levels had a sweet spot in one of the walls near a bonus barrel that had no collision detection, allowing you to enter the inside of the walls, thereby being trapped inside.
Once you discovered it was quite easy to get again.

You could run around inside the walls of this ice cavern now. Useless trick since random sections of the inside walls would kill you and others would plunge you to your death.

I did it at school in front of a big bunch of SNES fans, most who had the game, and actually managed to trick a few of them into believing that this was the only way to complete the level. (hehe, I was further than all of them at the time)
A couple of them then spent the next few days in frustration stuck on this one level trying to complete it by running around inside the walls.... before I revealed to them the error of their ways and they moved on.

Actually, thats not so much a story about a glitch in a game as a story about me being really mean.
