    Who's skipping the "next generation"?

I dunno about you lot, but I'm bloody drowning in unfinished/barely touched games here with not a lot of time to play them, and the backlog just gets worse with each passing month (especially at this time of year with "must-haves" being released on a seemingly daily basis..) >_<

I've already got enough games to last a lifetime as it is, and there's still dozens more on the horizon that I'll want as well before the existing consoles finally "die" out.
I also think the current consoles already provide good enough graphical performance, so, to me, there's no "need" for Xbox2/PS3 etc anyway- I find myself not even the slightest bit interested in how many more polygons they'll be able to shift.

So...instead of buying into the next wave of bull**** as usual, I'm going to ignore them and just play the games I already have. Will anyone join me? (Judging by the demand for NDS & PSP, probably not many )

    Thoughts? Comments?

Its too early to say. I'm really excited to see what they do with the next gen consoles. Most notably the 'Revolution' by Ninty because you can bet your bottom dollar it will be more than just having better graphics. I think the DS gives us maybe a small idea of what they are working on.

Xbox 2 i would imagine would beat the PS3 due to MS having bottomless pockets and will give it away if it means games are bought for it etc etc. I'm not interested in just updated polygon counts but I am interested in what else next gen consoles will be able to do. Apparently they will be wireless hubs. Id like to see wireless controllers as standard.

****, i still haven't caught up with this generation yet. More than happy with my DC and trying to perfect Street Fighter 3 for now!

Say it all you like, you're all going to end up with (at least) one of each.

          I'm gonna wait and see.

The Revolution is the only one that has caught my attention, but until I see how revolutionary it will be, and how the games incorporate this technology, I'll wait and see how it turns out.

The PS3, and XB2 look like updates of their respective companies current consoles ie boring.

it would be too much to miss an entire generation of gaming. can you imagine skipping the 16bit era? you would have been deprived of too many classic gaming moments, same goes here, just like when people skipped the dreamcast because they were waiting for ps2, thats over a year of brilliant games missed out on ffs!!!

I could never bring myself to buying a sony machine, and the thaught of a nextgen halo doesnt excite me either but the revowootion is on the list

Remember when we went from Mega Drive to Saturn, SNES to N64... That was a huge leap forward in technology. This generation was more of an evolution, but next time we will be back into revolutionary terrority.

Well, that is to say, the hardware is *so* much more powerful than what we have now that revolutionary content is possible. I assume everyone saw the amazing demos of Unreal 3 a while back? Graphics like that will bring a level of immersion on a totally different scale to anything we have now, plus I believe developers will start to shot us more as well. Epic scale, huge battles, endless vistas.

The next generation may well be the last huge leap, anything beyond that may go un-noticed by the general public.

There's no way you'll just "miss" an entire generation of consoles. So far each gen has lasted about five years, as will the next one probably. To say you're going to just ignore the consoles and their subsequent games is a rather foolhardy prediction.

Harware this, hardware that... the PS2 has the weakest hardware of the current generation and yet I still play on it far more than the other two (/three) combined - it has more appealing games. This ethos will also be true in the next gen.

The idea of missing out on a whole generation (possibly 4/5 years) of gaming is insane.

Imagine the classics that you would miss. Also why are you making a decision on the next gen now, when we know nothing about it, its not like you have to buy one of the consoles till a game that you like is released for it

EDIT : All said before, i shouldnt go and do some work before posting

So technically i haven't missed this generation, as Dreamcast(the latest console i own) is still in the same band as PS2 etc right?

That's a bit of a grey area. Or rather a white on in this case.

It doesn't matter one jot though as graphics is all Joe Average cares about, which in turn causes publishers to put constraints on developers.

IMO, the GBA-GC linkup idea had enormous potential, but barely anyone bothered doing anything [imaginative] with it.

I think the same was true of the VMA too ne, is there actually any need to update from the current generation? I mean stuff like Live is just beginning to stablise and developers haven't really used its full potential yet right?

As the manufacturers don't make any profit from the systems, why is there a need to be urgent?

                              LOL.

All you've heard so far about the next generation is that Sony's console will have a CELL cpu and nVidia graphics chip, and details of Xbox 2 and Revolution are even more scarce.

How can anyone possibly, in this thread, comment already on "who's going to win next generation" or "the next generation of consoles will just be an update of current consoles" ?
