Is it just European console commercials that are pretentious?

That ad where all the different groups of people are mooching about on the plains seems eerily similar to the Big Train sketch where there are herds of jockeys on the savannah being hunted by Prince.
It's an exact rip of that: first thing I thought. Except it was a lot funnier with The Artist Formerly Famous doing it.

The number of 'borrowed' ideas is amazing to be honest. I'm surprised they don't get done for infringing copyright more often...

Sony don't need to sell the PS2 in their ads because there's no competition on the airwaves - when was the last time you saw an ad for XB or GC consoles (no games)?

          Brand awareness, innit.

All ads are **** anyway, they haven't made me want anything since I was about 10.

Speaking of adverts, why does just about every EA ad I see these days mention the Gamecube at the end of it?

'cos they had some deal with Nintendo Europe to promote the 'cube while they publish a bunch of EA titles, or something.

Were the Sega Pirate TV adverts any good? I can't seem to remember them anymore.

They had a few Ireland specific Third Place adverts. They were appalingly bad. They had leprechauns in them.

I used to really like that PS advert with the freaky headed girl talking about landing on your own moon.

It was by Chris Cunningham; you can get it on the DVD of his stuff that also has his Windowlicker, Come To Daddy etc. videos.

I actually liked the PS2 `Fun Anyone ?` ads shown a while back but they were totally irrelevant to what they were selling

I still have that on tape somewhere, I'll try and dig it out. Catchy as hell

Does anyone remember the early 90s SNES adverts? They were a bit crap. The tagline was "Will you ever get to the END" with "SUPER NINT" and "O" written near "END".

looks like I'm the only person who likes the current batch of PS2 ads then I can also see what they're trying to promote (but then I could with the Sega Dreamcast Bouy advert, never did understand the barber one tho) the pornstars one gives me a laugh anyway, ravaging poor golfers bet that gets banned before the years out. Eitherway it sticks in my head.
