The day when the enjoyment ends

I've recently been getting into the whole Jap Dreamcast scene (I'm experiencing genre defing games in slim orange cases!) but against my better judgement I've been buying games for the sake of it, I've found myself counting my games and being more concerned with the number than the quality.

What am I turning into!... is it that as you get older gaming becomes more obsessive and less of a pleasure or is it me?!

Is there a time that comes when the enjoyment just disappears from gaming and the obsessive collection thing kicks-in!? Is it like you are either a hardcore or casual gamer with nothing in between
    ... i dont want that!!

depends if you play a enjoyment-lacking game doesn't it? I know there's some games I'll never get bored of

I've been through what your going through. The best thing to do is sell everything that you can't fully appreciate. You'll end up with the same amount of games that you actually like and best of all have more time to devote to them.

The enjoyment ended tonight for me for Halo 2 on Live. I really HATE the game. Pick up double weapons, die, respawn, pick up double weapons yada yada. Just not my bag.

If you're into japanese dreamcast games, then for god's sake get the Pop'n Music games and the offical controller. You can't have more fun on a dreamcast.

It's the curse of More Money Than Sense. When I first started earning, at the middle period of the Megadrive's life, I'd spend a ridiculous amount of money on games and, as a result, hardly ever get around to playing most of them properly. In contrast, I've been pretty skint for the last twelve months or so and have had to cherry-pick select titles every now and again. Games that I know will last and that I absolutely definitely want - Disgaea, Metal Slug 3, etc.

And I've had a much better gaming experience as a result. I've not had other, unfinished games beckoning me from the corner of the room. I've had the time to play stuff through to completion and discover all the extra content, and I've *had* to do that to make sure that I'm getting my money's worth, because I can't afford to waste that sort of cash on something that's only going to get played for a couple of hours, then put away to gather dust.

Cut down on what you're buying. Only grab the tastiest things, ignore the half-arsed and fairly-good-but-not-amazing. You'll enjoy them that much more.

Dupre's right.....getting hold of a 'magicom' in the SNES days unintentionally killed it for me. I so wish to this day that I hadn't done it. Instead of saving the dosh and splashing out on a carts that were was really appreciated, i was suddenly innundated with every snes game ever released. It is sooo much better taking time & savouring an excellent game, than trying to divide your time between many lacklustre titles.
I paid ?70 for 'super star wars' a month or 2 before i got the magicom and it remains one of my fondest gaming memories, i really dont regret spending such insane money(for the time, I was still at school) on that game.

I know i'm talking about piracy etc but at the time the magicom deal appeared too good to be true for schoolkid who earned ?3.50 a week on a paper round. I've got loads more money now, I am eagerly awaiting Resident Evil 4 for GC to drop through the door cos I know it'll keep me hooked for weeks. Once I've done with that i'm gonna order Ikaruga. Savour the very best titles.

                Yeah, what he said ^

Buy one game and try and get the most out of it or you just end up with a big pile of hardly played games. I think there is so much choice of good games these days on all platforms, it is difficult to keep your interest in one and get your monies worth.

I don't know, maybe we are all conditioned by the constant advertising we get drummed into us every waking moment of our lives to buy buy buy.

Some people collect games, some people actually play them I guess.

i just buy games like they are going out of fashion

i bought metroid prime 2 when that came out and its still in its wrapping

there are just so many games to own. most games get a bit of play, a few hours but they go back on the shelf when something else comes along. some games get played through to completion

its all fun tho. for me, part of the fun of gaming is buying games as well as playing them

It happened to me with the dreamcast too. At one point last year I had something like 50 DC games and I wasn't interested in 15-20 of them I eventually saw sense and sold a load of them, cleared out the rest of my games and only kept what I absolutely wanted...and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Firstly I saved a fortune from not buying games and, secondly, I got an insane amount of money for the games I did sell

...but that just depressed me further because it meant I'd spent much more than that amount on these games!!

At one point I ended up re-collecting load of Saturn games. Bought just about every Neo Geo pocket game, started buying older consoles, blah blah blah.

Then last year (I think) I started selling it all off again. Its great to have all these things but I never got round to playing most of them (some I didn't even want to play).

Now I am much more careful about what I buy. There are plenty of triple A titles that I don't buy anymore simply because I know they aren't my bag, whereas once I used to just buy everything that came out.

Now, I get to play the games I really like and save money too, it's great!

These threads are so boring. Well, not boring, but repetitive. Seems like there's 1 every couple of weeks at the moment. Must be something in the air.

I quite like these threads myself.....anyway, I also seem to at times suffer from lack of interest in games, seemingly due to having so many to play, but I have found a solution to my games playing malaise, that is find a great...classic even, game and focus on playing that, allow your collecting of games to continue if you want, but also allow yourself to play and enjoy one great title, at the moment I am playing Castlevania 4 courtesy of Xbox emu, and I am really enjoying it.

if you're ever getting tired of gaming just play half life 2.... you'll not see the point of playing any other game.... until the next zelda comes out at least
