    Quirky Arcade madness

It cost a pound+ to have a go (which was a huge chunk of your allowance for that Blackpool/Lightwater Valley/Trocadero trip), but hey, it was worth it - Name some of those great arcade moments that lasted about a minute but cost you the Earth. One that sticks out in my mind-

Sonic Blast Man2 - was it really THAT funny punching that bag and distorting the image of your mate's face?....yes, worth every penny!

Sega R360 - I seem to remember paying ?3 for a go in Blackpool once!

Full Scale Ridge Racer with real MX-5 (I think)

Cost a whopping ?3 ten years ago but, wow, the experience was worth it. Sitting in that quality automobile the view being displayed across multiple MASSIVE monitors and that classic Ridge gameplay.

i would have to say the the top three

Asteriods [Atari] - One entire summer, one game - EVERY kid playing it

Commando [Capcom] - local bowling alley, at the time thought it was the best game ever. loved the graphics, loved the fact that the dude got brought in on a chopper which he then waved off!
          CLASS!

Outrun [SEGA]- The colours (that BLUE sky), the scaling sprites (so fast and so many), the vibration from the seat and not least 'musical sound shower' blasting out from speakers behind your head.
That game was a complete experience.

They've got one of these at my local bowling alley for ?1 a go, it's done the rounds a bit though as the screen is a bit knackered and the lovely oiks have put scratches on the MX5's paintwork.
I found playing this a very painful experience as the seat won't go back far enough and the bucket seats are painfully tight - imagine a tall semi-portly chap wincing in pain with a knee each side of the steering wheel, must have looked comical, at least that's my excuse for the lap times I posted!

I went to Hong Kong a few years ago and spent a few hours (and indeed around ?80) in the NamcoWorld arcade there - one of the games was a downhill mountainbike thing with a fullsize bike as the controller but given that the locals are all vertically challenged the handlebars were set very low, I got carried away and twatted my knee on one of the grips then fell off the bike in pain much to everyones amusement.

Was in Blackpool last weekend. The wonders of walking into a room and playing Metal Slug and Metal Slug 2 again...magic.

I do this everyday with my living room!

I know what you mean though, nothing beats playing proper old school arcade machines - I remember finding a very quiet arcade near Blackpool which had a row of 8 SF2 machines lined up on attract mode with "HADOKEN!!" ringing out every few seconds. Wicked!
