    For Men

There I was happily walking home... past the bus stop where I saw this poster...

A white background... a silver GBA SP in the middle... and underneath it.... the words "For Men"

And I looked around, and there it was again and again... heck, they've covered Birmingham.

As a girl, I find this a little bizarre.... and ever so slightly annoying.

Incase I am missing the point, can anyone explain Nintendo's logic to me..?

I saw those ads in magazines and the ones without that slogan are actually alright, but the "for men" ad has me baffled too

well ninty has a historyof sexism in advertisments. Take The slogan "are you going to play like a girl or save one". I personally think it's amusing.
I also like the yorkie advert's

      NOT FOR GIRLS
But then again i am a shovenisitc twat.

Perhaps its like a parody of the Ck for men adverts? I know what your saying tho seeing as they constantly say that their products are not for kids or grownups but everyone so why the change of heart for men and women?

That Yorkie "Not for girls" thing, wasn't that to make more girls buy them to prove them wrong?

They're trying to open the GBA:SP up to a 'young professional' demographic, all part of the SP's bland clamshell organizer design. I saw a similar advert in a games mag, where a bloke is playing one in bed, a woman beside him asleep, and the slogan 'the second best thing to do in bed'.

I hate the mindset of it tbh, the SP 'man's man' handheld, reinforcing the belief that if you own a handheld which is any colour other than black or silver it makes you a bit immature - nuts to that I say, if someone has a problem with me playing on a purple handheld, then the problem is theirs.

The Yorkie bar advert was designed to annoy women, and cause publicity.

The GBA SP advert seems just genuinely to be aiming themselves at men... it's just seems strange, thats all...

They're trying to be ironic; I think that's their line of thought.

It's all a thinly-veiled spoof of fashion and lifestyle. And by thinly-veiled I mean, I think they really mean it, and are actually trying to appeal to fashion and lifestyle groups, most likely men, but are just hiding beneath an "ironic" veneer. There's probably someone at the ad firm getting it in the neck because the print ad's masturbation implication didn't cause any fuss.

Why try to put anyone off buying your own product? This advertising idea makes no sense to me at all! Same as the Yorkie idea...

This gaming for men BS has never made any sense to me! My Missus is just as good at gaming as anyone else, and so was any other female gamer I've known.

Why differentiate? Gaming should be for anyone who enjoys it!

                    Not just for the guys...

Parody and irony - no wonder women don't get it.

it's funny, because my first impression of the GBA SP was that it looked like some sort of fold up make up mirror. I think nintendo should perhaps have a set of adverts for guys and one for girls, but I really can't see nintendo doing adverts in cosmo.

Given that the first I heard of the ad was when a female friend of mine announced that they had changed their mind about getting one, even though they already have a GBA and had practically drooled all over my SP, after seeing the ad I have to say that its typical Nintendo Europe cockup yet again, really.
