Not really, I completed the game in one straight go, none of the main bosses were particularly hard... and the final boss can be defeated in a few hits.... disappointingly easy.

I personally loved FFX-2, but it's not for everyone. It basically rounds up the loose ends left by FFX, and is absolutely jam packed with quests and extras. It's not a long, vast epic game... but it's not supposed to be. It essentially gives you one last chance to visit Spira, and when I reached the end of the game, I didn't want it to finish!

Yeah, I really liked it too. Agreeing with Shakey Jake: as long as you power level at good points in the game (Calm Lands being one, iirc) you can cruise it. Your levels can go so high because the dark versions of the summon creatures are extremely hard to beat.

The advanced sphere grid isn't any harder, it just means you can go where you like with any character from the off.

I think I might replay this when I get back home. See what I can do with the expert grid. And the Dark Aeons will kick your ass most possibly. As will the mega-hyper monsters in the monster arena. Overlevelling is always a good idea. If there is an area with a save-grid nearby, somewhere to buy potions and monsters abound, then level up massively.

Also, word of advice: Don't neglect your minor characters. Unlike Kotor (which did it very well) if you have to use a weak character for some plot-driven battle, it can be a right arse bandit.

EDIT: WTF am I saying? When I get home I'll be going out and buying Phantom Brave. Or maybe one of the RPGs that came out over Christmas cheap.

The dark aeons are exceptionaly hard to beat, but it is possible with all the ultimate weapons etc which grant you things like permenant haste, first hit, and inflict HUGE damage in the region of 100,000 a turn.

or you can get yashimitsu (sp?) and hope he will do his instant kill move which he does on a random basis.

that's the cheap, no skilled way of killing the dark aeons though. Don't see the point in having Yojimbo do the dirty work tbh

Yeah, you're a tough guy Adam, so how long did it take you to take down the Dark Magus Sisters ?

The only problem I have with FFX is that it's extermely linear for the first half, then at the calm lands it opens up but there's so much leveling to do if you wan't to beat The Darker Aeons and the Ultima Monster Arena creature that you eventually forget why you are doing it/ there's too little in the way of story advancement from there to keep it fresh and interesting imo.

Also, if you decide to go that route the final Boss fights get ridicilously easy which was a disappointment.

I saved my game with 3 Dark Aeons down, most of the monsters captured for the Arena and all the ultimate weapons, when the story fades from memory somewhat, I'll play up to the calm lands and then load up my save, hope that's gonna work. Maybe I can start to open my copy of X-2 then which I refuse to play before I properly finish X.

yeah the end gets so easy if you've beaten even one dark aeon, you can kill everything with a single attack with ease.
