The Wind Waker vs NiGHTS & the temptation of an offer

I just popped down town and picked up a variety of retro stuff for my Saturn. Luckily, I managed to pick up NiGHTS along with a 3D pad at last along with what I bought.

Now... I'm looking forward to playing NiGHTS after what a few of you have told me about it... But, I've also got Wind Waker to play, and I don't like playing major games at the same time. It's kind of like crossing the beams in Ghostbusters - A bit of a no-no. So... Objectively, Which of the games do you reckon is worth my attention first and foremost? The Wind Waker or NiGHTS?

On a side note, I was briefly talking to an assistant at the local GameStation about Radiant SilverGun, and a passerby overheard and offered to sell me a copy for ?150. I was really tempted to say yes, but I knew that if I did, I'd be skint for the rest of the month and not be able to afford some of the upcoming big releases. The problem is the guy appeared to be looking to offload it immediately too.

So... Some of you who have the game... Is it worth me returning tomorrow and picking it up?

Is Radiant SilverGun worth sacrificing the rest of my gaming budget for a few weeks?

I'd play WW first. I don't own it, but it's a linear game by-and-large, which you can play through and complete. NiGHTS is skills-based and non-linear, and, if you like it, will constantly eat into your free time

    IMO, WW first, NiGHTS second.

RSG? I'd consult with Tokuda about a price before accepting ?150 as a figure, just in case.

Only if you're a big fan of shmups is my opinon on that.

As for Zelda vs Nights. Play Zelda or toss a coin to decide.

        I agree,

You'll be able to pick up Radiant Silvergun for less than ?150 easily whenever you want (within reason! - I can't see the price going up much over the next year). Tokuda in the Items for Sale folder does it for ?120.

I'm not that much of a Nights fan but it is the sort of game that you can have a quick blast of and then put it down again after a short session.

I'm playing through Wind Wakers at the moment. Stick with it....and then go through OOT again......and the there's the Dungeons one..........

          hi Chi! ^^

Yeah, but it takes a while to master. Depends on personal tase, but if you want to keep them exclusive from one another, NiGHTS is the bigger game in terms of replayability, so I think WW first. Just my 2p.

In a word no (unless you're a mega shmup loony, in which case you'd have it already).
I had this last time I bought a Saturn and was quite dissapointed after all the hype, if you look past the fancy graphics and slightly novel scoring system it's just another vertical shmp and ?150 is quite frankly ludicrous for a twitch game IMO.
For ?150 you could get Ikaruga and Samba De Amigo with maracas and still have change or a pint.

            *rant mode off*

BTW, I second Treble, play Zelda first as Nights will keep you playing for a good while!

You must own Nights and you must own an analogue controller to play it. Forget all other games as Nights is the king.

                I couldn't help it...

I had to have a quick jam on NiGHTS just to see what it was like. First impressions are overwhelmingly positive. I didn't even look at a manual, options screen or anything.

Just dived right on in there, and before you know it, I'm flying around the screen like a crazed loon, not having a clue what I am doing.

All I know is that I really enjoyed myself, even though I got kicked out of NiGHTS body a couple of times because I wasn't focusing on the main task, but instead experimenting with the environment and my character. From what I gather, you have to collect the blue orbs and fly through the rings before flying into some kind of dome to clear each stage in a level.

Whoever said this game has graphically aged (in a previous thread)... What?!?

It's sickening imaginative and beautiful in aesthetic terms, easy to pick up, and really fun to play.

This is the kind of thing that I'd imagine psychotic sugar-coated candy pop would end up looking like if transposed into videogame form.

                Lush.

NiGHTS and Wind Waker until Silent Hill 3 arrives. Looks like my gaming month is set.

You were doing the right thing with Nights... most of what makes the gam great is just playing around rather than completing a task.

Concept...I you, man! A lovely way for a n00b to describe my favourite game of all time ^^

I only ever tell people it has aged graphically because it lowers expectations and makes them pleasantly surprised when they see it. Cunning? Moi?

                      Concept.

Try and destroy the Ideya Capture with 20 orbs as soon as possible, then run around the course with the Ideya Crystal and the rest of your time, try and squeeze as many links in as you can before the timer reaches 0 - just make sure you get back to the checkpoint before you blow your score!

Sorry - But I didn't have a clue what to do properly before someone showed me, then I was instantly hooked for good. You seem to enjoy what you're already doing anyway.

I don't think it matters if you don't have a clue what's going on... It all falls into place after a while.

And then ther's that infinite link *time restrictions apply* man it's sweet wehn you get round that 3 times without an unbroken chain.

Funny, i managed A's on the first and last levels with both kids, BUT the levels inbetween are a bit SICK.

                          Brilliant ending too.

                          They they should be.

I got a fair way through The Wind Waker, but I lost the motivation to carry on. Honestly don't know why, because I was enjoying it.

I don't think it's fair to compare The Wind Waker and NiGHTS in direct contrast as software because they are very different games.

But after my brief session on NiGHTS, I'm going to have to return to that and leave The Wind Waker for another time, perhaps over the summer drought in July and August.
